I once caught a ball Moises tossed into the stands at Riverfront. Ather that story leaked (pun intended), I washed it in bleach.

Netherlands pitchers held David Ortiz, Hanley Ramirez, Jose Reyes, Miguel Tejada, Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano, Miguel Olivo and Willy Tavarez to ONE run in 20 innings of play. Carlos Marmol blew a 1-0 save opportunity in the 11th.

I hope the DR isn't like Colombia. Those poor bastards lost a World Cup game to the USA in 1994 and one of their players got murdered when he got home. :tongue2:

Honestly though, look at that roster:

Over half those guys' baseball cards claim they're 35 years old, which means they're all well over 40 according to the Dominican/American age exchange-rate.

I wasn't a big fan of the concept of the WBC, but I'm finding myself really drawn into some of these games. The DR losing to da Nederlands twice highlights one of the great truisms of baseball: Great pitching beats great hitting (and Bert Blyleven is still habitually underrated, while Felipe Alou shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a major league club house).

Round Two begins with an 11-1 humiliation of the USA at the hands of Puerto Rico. Jake Peavy was bombed and the mercy rule kicked in as the game was called after seven innings. :ohwell:

Cuba playing Japan right now. Fidel's hostages look pretty good, as usual, but Japan got 'em in the title game in 2006.
