Found some nice Iditarod pics

The current standings show Mackey still leading, since he left Kaltag before King.

But my wife found a site that has a GPS locator for some of the sleds, and it shows King now a few miles ahead of Mackey, who had taken a rest on the trail beween the checkpoints.

The guys aren't allowed to use a GPS to help navigate, or any other electonic devices (a magnetic compass is OK), so I'm sure they only have something sending an outward locator signal.

EDIT - Here's the URL for the site to see where some of the mushers are via GPS. Not all of them appear (Gebhardt and Gatt are among those who don't), but it gives more recent info than the "current standings" list. I think it requires IE, and I'm not sure if you're required to have given an e-mail address to idirarod.com

EDIT - Mackey and King have traded the lead back and forth, depending on their rest periods. Right now Mackey is first out of Unalakleet, 44 minutes ahead of King, but King has the advantage of being fresher and I would now consider him the favorite.

Mackey pulled into Koyuk 8 minutes ahead of King. They've got about 100 miles left until the mandatory 8-hour rest stop at White Mountain, and after that it's 77 miles to the finish line in Nome. They have about a 5-hour lead on everybody else, so it looks like a tight 2-man race to the finish.

*Starts counting Vcash*

So this thing should wrap up in time so I can lose all of that vcash on the NCAA tourney?

Mackey took only a 1 and a half hour rest last night. King left 50 minutes behind him, but lost 7 more minutes along the way. They are now at the 8-hour rest in White Mountain, and will leave there tonight.

The bet should pay out late tomorrow morning. I'll be shocked if King can make up almost an hour in the last 77 miles, after both teams have a long rest.
