Who Is the Greatest Buckeye Offensive Tackle?

Welcome to the seventh installment of the "Greatest Buckeyes Ever" poll - this one allows you to vote for the best Buckeye offensive tackles. Every Saturday, we will post a poll on "Who's the Greatest Buckeye" at each of the positions. The last poll, head coach, will open on the day of THE GAME, and close on December 30th. By New Years Day, we will have the Buckeye Planet All-Time Buckeye Team.

All players selected for the poll will be from the "modern era", which we have more-or-less arbitrarily determined to have begun with the hiring of Woody Hayes in 1951. However, there will be a special poll for the older Buckeye stars, where you will be allowed to choose amongst such greats as Les Horvath, Vic Janowicz, Chic Harley, etc.

Please vote on each poll, if you can. Also, please note that each poll will allow you to vote at least twice, as we would like to compile a first and second team. If you vote for "other", please let us know your selection(s) by setting forth the name(s) in a post.

Note: All of the players in the poll were selected as All-Americans (Davidson in '64; Van Horn in '65; Foley in '68; Mayes in '68; Hicks in '72 and '73; Schumacher in '74; Ward in '76 and '77; Stringer in '93 and '94; and Pace in '95 and '96).

orlando pace.....greatest lineman period.
john hicks...a baby step behind pace.
charles csuri...big ten mvp in 42...father of digital art as professor emeritus at the Ohio State University.
foley...3 time academic all-american.


lordjeff....i added csuri/other...because he was the mvp on a national title team..an all-american...and one of the great buckeyes after his playing days were over

Thanks for the input, Di. I'll have Csuri, Amling, and many others on the "Old Timers" list, which should be an interesting and much-discussed poll.

FWIW, I voted for the four 2-time All-Americans; if I had to put them in order, I'd say Pace, Hicks, Stringer, Ward.

Dave Foley and Rufus Mayes may not have been, individually, the best OTs OSU has had. But, together, they were the best OT duo the Bucks have seen.

Parker was a guard; ditto for Lachey. You will see both of them on this Saturday's poll, along with other Buckeye greats such as All-Americans Rob Murphy, Ted Smith, Ken Fritz, and Aurealius Thomas.

I believe that Lachey played OT for most of his pro career, however.

OT's Doug France and William Roberts did not receive All-American recognition at Ohio State, but both had stellar Pro Bowl careers in the NFL.

2 time Lombardi Award Winner, first sophmore to ever win the award 1995-1996, 1996 Outland Trophy Winner and a finalist for the heisman, 2 time All American, His last two years at OSU he did not allow a sack and recorded 76 pancake blocks as a senior (nobody knew what a pancake was until Pace)
