If ESPN actually manages to disregard the rankings completely and vote LSU into the game over Georgia it will truly mark a new precedent.
Imagine all the times that a team that has not won its conference has finished ranked higher than its champion. Can't happen anymore. Our rankings are based on heurisitics, or passed methods. ESPN wants to vote LSU because that is the team that they have wanted from the beginning of the season, no matter how average they have looked.
Didn't we just hear that it is a mockery that OSU should appear in the championship after just losing a game. ??? Not relevant anymore?
Seriously I understand that everyone thinks LSU is the best team for whatever reason, and that is who I want to play. But I have principles and I understand how dangerous it can be to literally let ESPN choose who will play. Georgia is the team. If you have a problem with it, consult the SEC because their championship game is what crowned LSU. It should have just been a split. Honestly ask yourself who is the best team in the SEC.
If we are throwing out past practices then we need to throw them all out and understand that just because Tennessee got to play in the game doesn't necessarily mean they deserved it and conversely that the SEC championship game didn't actually prove the champ.
This is too monopolistic anymore. We can't be subjected over and over to one view, ESPN's. They have too much power. We need to have another station of forum or some kind of medium that can rival ESPN otherwise whatever they say is going to become unchallenged truth. They are compromising the game.
In fact, despite how it might change the sport we may need to switch to a playoff just to make sure that opinions can't influence how the championship if crowned. Honestly it has gotten to that point. I would rather destroy tradition that to allow ESPN to stick their hands this far into the system.
