"Who am I?" (Buckeye players edition...let's play)

Alan said:
bingo...bingo....my father was friends with the family....

you were also correct with your first guess in a way, but he wasn't the first replacement...

well done...
I had met Pete Johnson at a party in a dorm before the season started that year - legs like tree trunks, even before he played a down.

(I had to edit my previous post, he had 3 TD's in the 1974 RB).

OK - Who was the first Buckeye ever taken in the first round of an NFL draft?

I'm about ready to go to bed!!!

Here is an easy one:

Who is this former buckeye player with Marie Lombardi?

Yes it is Jim Stillwagon the first recipient of the Lombardi award.

I forgot that you could click on properties and see the photo address. I guess I should have done something about it (like save it to another file). Good work though.

Biobuck is now "on the clock" for a new question.

Another one for the intermission, just to bring up a name. I coached for three seasons at Ohio State, being hired at the age of 32. In my first season, I led the Buckeyes to a Bowl Game against Southern California, which the good guys won 33-0. It was the first time the Trojans had been shut out in eleven seasons!

I am Paul Brown. The Buckeyes would win their first official National Championship the next year, 1942.

In the late 1970's and early 80's..I caught a pass in 48 straight games setting an NCAA record. I also hold the 'buckeye' record for having caught a pass in 48 consecutive games..not sure whether the NCAA record still holds..may be somebody can help me find it..

Great question!!! I was planning on maybe using it myself. The answer is Gary Williams. Not Gary Williams the basketball coach.

I found a NCAA record website:
http://www.ncaa.org/library/records/football_records_book/2003/2003_football_records_book.pdf
that lists Kareem Kelly, Southern California. 1999-2002 was the record holder with catching a pass in 47 consecutive games.

I'm not sure sure, however I think the NCAA record does not include bowl games, and Gary's OSU record of 48 does. I believe that he would only have 44 games if you don't include bowl games.

I'm about 97% sure that you're right, that the NCAA record does not include bowl games. Or, rather, DID not include bowl games. Something is telling me that they changed that recently, and that now bowl games DO count. Maybe I should get those annoying voices out of my head.

Zurp,

Upon further review, I read the fine print in the NCAA record book that I listed in my post and it has: "Prior to 2002, postseason games were not included in NCAA final football statistics or records. Beginning with the 2002 season all post season games were included in NCAA final football statistics and records".

Kelly had the advantage playing in more games that counted towards the record than Williams.

Kelly had the following:

1999 - 12 games (extra game at Hawaii counted, no bowl)
2000 - 11 games (plus kickoff classic, no bowl)
2001 - 11 games (went to bowl, bowl not counted)
2002 - 13 games (bowl counted)
-----------------
total - 47 games

If you count the 2000 Kickoff Classic and 2001 bowl game, Kelly would have 49 games. One more than Williams' 48.
