Whine, Cheese, and beer (hopefully)

gregorylee

I'd rather be napping!!
At work yesterday, a freind emails and says that the lady across the street is having a garage sale and they have a Beer Miester, $150. Now, she didn't know this but I have been looking for one for a while, waiting for the right deal. She lives in a nice neighborhood, so I assume that it will be well cared for, I ask her, "how does it look?". Her response, "fine from here". I tell her to ask the lady to hold it, I will buy it. After work I go to pay and pick it up.

O DEER LOWERED!!!

This thing must have been stored in a musty basement, it stinks, and it's rusty as heck. So pretty much since I have gotten home I have been sanding grinding and stripping all the paint and rust off this thing, luckily it seems to be mostly surface rust, a couple of really small point where it goes through. It has this antiqued black paint on it, and holy god it is a pain to get off. I haven't had the nerve yet to plug it in and see if the fridge part works. I should go back and charge them for selling such a messed up thing. I can't believe they don't make those out of aluminum... It's even rusty inside! Crap I tell ya. Whine is over, the cheese... well, at least yall can't smell it, I'll have to let ya know later on the beer.

I don't blame the freind, she was far enough away from it, and what the hell do girls know about beer meisters anyway...

OK, so I actually finished refurbing the thing back in early Oct. I have been lazy and not gone and filled the CO2 and gotten a keg until last week thinking it would be nice to have for the game. I won't mention the game, but the beer....

I had a glass yesterday, and the wife asked me to go and pick something up from the store for her, so I chugged the last half of the glass. Brain Freeze!!! That is some freaking cold beer, matter of fact in about 45 minutes I am going go home a pull another glass and chug it just to revel in my beerness!

I'm not familiar with the Beer Meister, but I assume it's a fridge that holds a 1/2 barrel with a tower tap on top, correct? Did you also replace your beer line? How big is your CO2 tank and is the regulator still good? What kind of faucet to you have? If your faucet sticks after not using it for a couple of days you might want to go with a forward seal faucet like a Perlick or Shirron - they're awesome and worth the price.

Cheers and I hope you're not dispensing BudMillerCoors out of that and instead have something more worthy!

well, I had to replace just about everything on it but the fridge part and the tank (7# I think)

New Tower, new lines, new regulator, new tap couple, new faucet.

and for right now it is Miller Lite, beer prices have gone way the hell up since the last time I bought a keg, I was remembering the $50 range and it was more like $80 something Scammenous bastards.

Well, you put some serious cash back into it then. But you've got to upgrade from Miller Lite. You're pissing off the Beer Gods by serving that watered-down crap from your beer shrine.

Well, the couple and lines I got from a guy that lives across the street (works at a distributor) I bought the tree, faucet, and regulator. Ther is about a $50 jump (per half barrel) to the good stuff, maybe I need to play the lotto

The Miller Lite would be fine by me. I've got an old working Coke machine that I keep beer and soft drinks in. I'm thinking about taking out the dispensing racks and rigging it up to hold a keg, I don't really want to mess up the machine though.

DO not mess with that machine. Check it out, it should be worth a lot of money if it one of the real old ones with the vertical door. If it is dont strip it.
