I picked 2006 Fiesta Bowl. Maybe it's because it's more in my remembery. But I think it's more to do with the fact that all three were about hype, but 2006 was also a BCS Bowl game. I know.. there was no BCS in 1995 and 1996. But those games weren't even bowl games. Also, I enjoyed seeing the Buckeyes chop down Weis, who was set to take over for God, when he retires. (Or maybe God is going to take over for Weis, when HE retires.)

It was close between 1995 and 2006, but I went with 2006 because of the disrespect Weis indirectly showed Tressel with his "my one SB ring is worth more than his 5 NC rings" comment and media fellatio the Weis was getting every day. Plus the fact that we put up more yards on them than any other team has in Notre Dame's 1119-game history.

Had to be 2006 for me...Notre Dame had lost some of their luster by '95, and though it was possibly the best win Cooper had, I think that sticking it to all the "Notre Dame is back" media whores and the coach who is going to win 100 national championships in a row (and whose QBs will win even more Heismans than Ron Powlus was supposed to) was the best overall...it also proved we haven't gone anywhere since 2002...no light point when you consider what some were saying midseason last year.

The 1995 game had one additional ingredient that was special for me: it was the date of my wife's 40th birthday. I had several years to plot my schemes: at the skull session, in the stadium and back at home.

With the help of some friends and the Buckeyes, it became a truly extraordinary day.

To top it off, the next day we had a surprise lunch out for her, and Terry Smith (at that time, "the voice of the Buckeyes" on 1460) walked into the restaurant while we were dining. I spoke to him and he agreed to come over to our table and visit.

I remember that.

Back when airplanes could fly over the stadium, you had a banner made especially for her.

What a swell guy

My choice is going to be the msot recent for a few reasons:

1) It helped with the final recruiting

2) Eddie may have not been playing but seeing great football legends on the sidlines watching us was special (Eddie, Doss, Jerry Rice, Griffin, etc.)

3) It was a national game and BCS Bowl, when NO other game was going on so all attention was one the smackdown in the desert

4) The game set us up nicely for a top 5 poll position pre-2006

5) It threw out Troy Smiths name for pre-season Heisman favorite as well as re-introduced Teddy Ginn to the world

Picking a favorite in this poll is like picking a favorite frosted mug to pour my Michelob into. Very difficult since any frosted mug does what it is intended to do. Eventually I voted for the 1995 game. Mainly because I was there, thanks to my brother-in-law, an ND grad who scored the tickets for me, and I sat by ND fans.

They all are great.
96, my fondest memory was hearing the ND announcers say how badly we were man handling their team. 95 and 96 were not really close games.
But the Fiesta is my favorite if for no other reason than to shut up "the Guru" talk. A closer game than 95 and 96. [nosmiley]

You expect to win at home. You hope to be 500 against the likes of Michigan, Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, at their place sooo...beating them at South Bend...beating them while listening to their paid lackey/staff apologist, Bob Trumpy, call the game... beating them after Lou Hotz had said, "I'm sick of hearing about Ohio State. Did they invent football? What about my team..." beating them while watching Powlus implode on the sidelines... it was all tooo sweet. 96 gets my vote.

Although the 95 version was pretty sweet with Eddie George and at home and the first time the two schools played in 5 billion years, I have to go with the BCS game. More at stake, and a bigger stage. Plus, it came after a year of hearing crap-loads about how great ND is now.
