Which CB Will Replace Fox?

I sure hope somebody on that list steps up... I would think Everett, Welch, and O'neal have the best shot (although I don't like counting on a true freshman for anything). If none of those guys steps up to the plate, the coaches might be forced to try Ginn (it seems clear the coaches want Ginn as a WR, if we are without a corner it might force their hand)...

I think there are enough bodies to find a couple good ones in the group. You have to think Everett has the edge considering what is asked of the boundary corner. This is without a doubt the biggest question mark on the defensive side of the ball.

What would help immensely is a better pass rush from the front four. There has been a huge dropoff ever since Will Smith and Co. graduated. Mike Kudla did play really well at the tail end of last season. It's time for Jay Richardson to make some noise. With Barrow, Gholston, Wilson and Worthington all in the mix you have to think the pass rush improves, which will help mask any deficiencies there may be at corner.

It will also be interesting to see how aggressive Coach Heacock will be.

9 guys on the list shows how much depth there is in the secondary. And Roberts is in the 'other' category, which EJ just departed from.

I went with Everett, but it would be great if Lane, Welch, or Jenkins emerges as a 'lock-down' guy.l

I will give you a clue....
his name rhymes with "Sirjo Welch" :wink2:
I'm not a poetry expert, (I don't even know for sure how to spell "poetry") but I don't think "Sirjo Welch" rhymes with "Sirjo Welch." "Birjo Belch" does, though. I don't think you're allowed to rhyme a word with itself.

But I meant Birjo Belch! he's a walk-on true freshman (5'8", 285) who is going to shut down each team's best receiver with tight, burp-and-run coverage. One whiff of his belches and the receiver will be disoriented for the whole game.
I hear he prefers to be called "Zurp", though.

Someone's using my name?!? Oh well.. flattery is the finest form of immitation, they say.

Is he allowed to use the burp-and-run technique on the opposing coach? I can see it now: "...we're in the third quarter and Lloyd Carr is sending in the punt team on second down AGAIN! He and the rest of the coaching staff been very disoriented since Birjo Belch burped on their sideline only 6 minutes into the game. Carr has thrown up on himself twice and on Michael Hart three times. Michigan has gotten penalties for having twelve men on the field three times, thirteen men on the field four times, and sixteen men on the field twice. Another thirteen times, Michigan has had only four men on the field. Back to the game, here's the snap to the punter.. It went over his head when he bent over to puke on the field! Unbelievable!!!"

Just make sure he doesn't let any slip when he's on the Buckeye sideline.

How about Ginn?

If one of these guys doesn't really step up, what is wrong with playing as a full-time DB? If we assume for a second that Ginn can lock-down his guy, can it benefit the team if he moves over? I say yes. Here's why:

1. OSU loaded at WR, thin at DB.
2. Ginn can still return punts, kickoffs.
3. Ginn can still play on obvious passing downs.
4. Ginn is in better condition than Chris Gamble. He can play more.

I don't mean to hijack the thread to a Ginn debate, but I think he's earned the right to try and earn a starting stop as DB while still returning punts and being a part of the offense.

thats a fairly big assumption on account of:
A. ginn did not beat out fox for the position
B. ginn did not beat out ay for the position
C. ginn did not beat out underwood for the position

whether or not ginn is gods gift to cornerbackdom according to message boards is irrelivant, i seem to recall him doing a whole lot of not starting at cb... ever at tOSU. even after we lost fox early in the season. then later in the season when we were down 3 db's... not a single down, not even when he wasn't contributing on offense and well before he saw the field on special teams.

1. OSU loaded at WR, thin at DB.
young at db. but then, how many impact players we have at wr? i count holmes, ginn, and gonzo... and.. yeah.. thats pretty much it. thats loaded? thats loaded on a team that can't run to save its life? *ponders*

2. Ginn can still return punts, kickoffs.
increased reps, increased odds to injury. expecially when every team out there is going to be gunning for him from the get go.

3. Ginn can still play on obvious passing downs.
when he is least effective? ginn is most dangerous because of the mismatches he creates. alot of great plays happened when ginn WASN'T the intended receiver/runner. i can't think of a single offensive play in which i wouldn't want him on the field. if for no other purpose than to keep the defense honest.

4. Ginn is in better condition than Chris Gamble. He can play more.
i assume you have some very serious inside info there... to say anyone on the planet is in better condition than gamble was is saying a lot. gamble was never my fav buckeye but dag... the kid could go.

i agree that he has earned it. but at the end of the day its a question of where will he fit to help the team win. not where does he fit to make ginn the happiest. id like to see him at cb as well just out of curiousity. but i don't think him as the starting cb is overly likely this year. maybe next year... *shrug* but thats why im a tech and not a head coach .
