Well it could be the sea of cortez between mainland Mexico and the baja. The first time I looked I didn't realize it was land, I thought it was the sea in the horizon, maybe haze.

I don't think this is right, but interestingly, that last picture does make me think of Lake Michigan in the dunes area north of Muskegon. Perhaps Muck was right!
