I plan on getting a new higher-tech driver this year, but haven't decided on what yet.
I recommend that you pick up the R5 From Taylor Made. They came otu with the R7 this year and it's not much better, and oyu can get the R5 for under 200 greenbacks at most golf shops.

I personally play Callaway steelhead driver (9 deg.) and Cleveland TA5 irons. Not much else to the rest of the bag 5 wood's a knock-off and my putter is an old Wilson mallet putter but I love the thing and can putt pretty good with it so I don't want to change (though it would probally help if I did)

I use

Driver: Titlesist 983K 9degree stiff
3 wood: Callaway Steelhead

Irons: Callaway x-14s 3-pw
Wedges: Tommy Armour w3 52* gap wedge
Titleist Vokey 56*
Toski 60* Lob

Putter: Ping Anser
Ball: Titleist ProV1

If anyone is interested I have two sets of clubs for sale.
I have one set of Tommy Armour 845s silver scot's w/ True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts 3-pw : PGA Guide says they are worth $85

One Set of Callaway Steelhead X-14 Irons 3-pw : These have only been used one season. PGA Guide says they are worth $275-300

Anyone interested just send me a PM. If you are coming to the golf outing you can hit them.

If you are interested in what used clubs are worth, they have a great area on the PGA of america website. It's like a Kelly Blue book for golf clubs. It will tell you what they are worth on trade, and retail, based on mfg, shaft and condition. It is good to check before you go somewhere and buy them used. Here is a link

I golf once a year at a work event. Golf just does not relax me.

My inventory consists of:

A handmade 5 weight rod. Very nice action.

A Redington 5/6 weight rod. Nice rod for all around use and abuse.

A Redington 8/9 weight rod. Not quite heavy enough for salmon. Needs to be replaced.

A St. Croix 7 weight rod. Ideal weight for steelhead.

Now I wish fall would arrive to commence football and fishing for things other than bass.

My clubs were custom-made for me back in 1989 by the Golf Works in Newark, OH. It was a gift from my mother for my graduation from college. I have Kinetic CER 4-11 irons (10 is PW, 11 is SW) and BioMech 1, 3, and 5 woods. I also have a big-head graphite driver I got from them that has a long graphite shaft and a 9 degree loft. The other driver is an 11 degree loft with sole runners and is ideal for fairway shots with a good lie. Finally, I also carry a 60 degree "Third Wedge" for trouble shots. I know this stuff is really old and behind the times, but the irons have one advantage: square grooves. The putter is an ordinary blade putter with slightly offset head.

Maybe if I played more often I might invest in some better equipment, but right now it's a low priority.

My sticks are a good 8 years old but were great for their time
-Calloway Great Big Bertha firm flex graphite driver
-Calloway Steelhead 3 and 5 steel shaft woods
-Taylor Made Tour 3-PW steel shaft irons
-Cleveland SW and LW
-Scotty Cameron oil can wood finish putter

Great sticks but it's about time for an upgrade methinks

I have heard from others that the R5 is a great driver..
My buddy has one that I've hit a few times and the thing just feels right. Of course he can just crush the ball with it but I don't have the club head speed. If I swing to hard I get a major slice so I try to take ot easy off the tee with more of a 3/4 swing.

What I want in My Bag

If I did play Golf regularly (and god knows I should, I live on a golf course) I wouldn't get any Titleist clubs. No they would not be good enough for this duffer.

I'd go with ENTitleist -- because, damn it, I deserve an under-par score to offset my sub-par performance.
