What will it take for a RB to win the Heisman?

Sorry about that. I used pretty bad wording when I typed that. I was trying to say that the RB was more important to the team basically.
Like for a RB to win I don't think there could be a QB on the same team of equal importance. I think the RB would need to be the focal point (Like Wells last year or McFadden a few years ago). Because if a QB is just as good on the same team then the media will probably vote for him. Hoying was good, but George was his superior kinda (ya know what I mean).

I think we all have different opinions on this, so we cant all agree. Considering I'm younger I also have more modern guys on the list. I think in recent years QB play has vastly improved. I do disagree with you when you say only two guys on that list should be considered Top 10. Fraizer, Leinart, and Young should all be locks IMO. I'll be honest and say that Troy Smith is a homer pick, but yeah

I made a list for another post so here is my unbiased list (no order):

Sammy Baugh
Jim Plunkett
Roger Staubach
Charlie Ward
Peyton Manning
Danny Wuerffuel
Tommy Fraizer
Vince Young
Matt Leinart
Tim Tebow

Now I understand Tebow is debatable, but I think after this year he will solidify his spot. The rest I think are all solid choices.

If you dont mind can I see your opinion on the top 10 QB's?

Don't get me wrong I respect guys like Flutie, Kosar, Elway, Lojack, etc. I just prefer these guys
Charlie Ward had one really good season, I'd say he's more debatable than Tebow.

I'd go (jn no particular order)
-Ken Dorsey (38-2, 1 NC UM all time leader in yards and TD)
-Davey O'Brien ('38 Heisman, dominant player in a different era)
-VY (1 NC, arguably shoulda won Heisman, took over games like few before him)
-Sammy Baugh (1 NC, revolutionized the game)
-Leinart (1 NC, '04 Heisman, 39-2, 10693 yds, 99TD)
-Tommie Frazier (2 NC, 13-2 vs. Ranked teams, Big game heroics)
-Mike Vick (22-2, changed the game in the early part of this decade)
-Danny Wuerffel (1 NC, '96 Heisman, 10,875 yds, 114 TD)
-Joe Namath (29-4, 1 NC)
-Jim Plunkett ('70 Heisman, also changed the way offense was played in his era)

Tebow is one more big year from being very high on this list. The only thing holding him off right now IMO is a rather ordinary UF team his first year.

For them to save their great seasons for junior/senior seasons... a restriction that seems more prevalent with RBs than QBs. Peterson & McFadden were arguably as prolific as the QBs that won imo.

Agreed. I think it's gonna be a long time before we see another RB have the type of frosh year Peterson did. He was amazing.

This season, I don't see anybody out there unless one of the "Big 3" stumbles. The media is salivating for TP. If he has a breakout game against USC, he's gonna get an absurd amount of coverage.

If Clausen puts up Quinn-ish numbers and ND is decent, he'll get looks. He has the recievers to do that if the line can keep him upright.

USC QB's always get a look and if they win in the Shoe thanks in part to that QB, he'll get talk.

As for RBs, Javid Best is the flashiest. But, if Cal is their usual 8-4 self, he'll have a hard time getting in over any QBs. JJ Arrington ran for 2000 yards there a few years ago and didn't sniff the Heisman.

Jacquizz Rodgers is in a similar boat to Best. Even if he has a monster year, will he get enough attention at Oregon State?

C.J. Spiller is a sleeper. I think Dabo Sweeney is gonna be a good coach for Clemson and if they turn things around in the ACC and he has the type of year he's capable of, he may get some attention.

Jonathan Dwyer at GT is in a similar situation as Spiller.

With the way the college game is de-emphasizing the run in favor of the pass it's gonna be a long time before a RB wins the Heisman again. I think it's going to take a dominant RB on a team with a prolific I-formation or triple option offense to win the award.

I like your list. Lots of those guys have good claims. Also it's easy to see that there have been alot of great QB's in the past 25 years.

Dorsey and Vick are on the edge on my list.

I also agree with the person who said that Barkley and Pryor are going to be getting lots of Heisman love over the next couple of years. I could possibly see Joe McKnight getting into contention next year if he gets a lot more touches. Seastrunk from this years class has a good shot. I'd like to think that Roderick has a chance in a couple years, but I'm not ready to put all my money on that YET. Noel Devine I think could have a Barry Sanders type years (stats wise) but his chances will hurt playing in the Big East. I think Lattimore has a good shot as well. Bryce Brown as well if UT turns around

DING DING DING, we have a winner.

This is the end result of the rise of the spread offense in college football. QBs are putting up ridiculous stats as did RBs did back when the wishbone offense and 3 yards and a cloud of dust was king. When most of the Top 5 teams in the country are running spread offenses and it gets even harder for a RB to get close.

Now, a USC RB can win. But Carroll has gone to the RB by committee approach. Cuz I could have seen Bush win it if he didn't split carries with White. And I could see a USC RB win it this year if Carroll went with one guy.
