I think you may have misunderstood my statement, I'm not saying the offense won't find itself in tough 3rd down positions. I'm not even saying the offense will get bogged down every time and be unable to convert every single 3rd down. What I am saying is the 3rd down conversion percentage (specifically 3rd and long) will take a significant hit, that is unless Boeckman turns into the next Krenzel. Which is entirely possible, but I've always been a pessimist at heart (and as a Browns and Indians fan can you blame me?). The Buckeyes are the one team I root for that consistently exceed my expectations though, so the 10-3 vote is a pessimist's vote.

You got to think that the national press will under rate us, not believe in us until we get to a major Bowl game and beat someone they think is better than us.
Problem is, being under rated/disrespected all season may well work against us!
But, we won't lack for motivation! :tongue2:
We will play with a chip on our shoulder. I like that!

That's pretty common for Ohio State. Someone posted on here a year or two ago the pre-season rankings and final rankings for a few years prior to that post, and Ohio State was consistently (but not always) ranked better at the end of the year than the beginning. Michigan, on the other hand, was consistently ranked better at the beginning of the season than at the end. Is that a function of coaching ability, or of the media hyping the teams that they want to hype?

I'd say it's coaching for the most part. m*ch*g*n is consistently ranked high because they consistently bring in top shelf talent. The problem is that Carr and staff have not consistently molded that talent into a polished product on the field. Look at their record in Big games the last seven years. That's a very telling statistic.

10-3. I am having a hard time seeing us losing 3 Big Ten games though.. but our pre-big ten season is not all that loaded like it has been the past couple of years..

PSU
Meatchicken
Whisky?? My border line game

It's hard to disagree with any of the posts on this thread. I just can't seem to find the optimism that some have. I have questions about the D-line. Gholston is a star, Wilson is solid, but after that it's a big question mark. Guys like Denlinger, Worthingon and Larimore are the wild cards. The LB's are strong and the secondary is impressive. If Anderson Russell returns to his previous form, it's the best secondary in the conference. On offense, Beanie has to stay healthy and hang on to the football. I think the offense will be better than most expect. Kicking game is superb.

Here is the bad news. I feel the Huskies will upset the Bucks before the conference begins. Then the pivotal B-10 games with PSU, Wisky and UM will determine OSU's fate.

PSU-night game and PSU's Bradley seems to know how to throttle the OSU offense. I see a loss

Wisky-probably the hardest game to evaluate. Since JT has arrived, he's 1-3 against Wisky, with 2 losses coming at the Shoe. After a tough game at PSU, OSU comes home to battle a physical team. Wisky lost their QB and all world LT but they will line up and run the ball. Close one, but a loss here too

UM- OSU will come into this game with nothing to lose. This team will remember the comments by Hart about the defense. It will be 2001 all over again. OSU will upset UM with another Wells leading the way. Beanie will run for daylight and Boeckman won't turn the ball over and make enough plays to win. OSU wins this one and knocks UM out of NC contention again. It will send UM to another Rose Bowl and another loss. OSU goes to a bowl game and wins setting up an exciting season with USC on the docket. OSU finishes 10-3 and enters the 08 season with hopes of a NC run.

I see the Wiscy game as THE pivotal game of the season. Based on their schedule.
We could lose at Penn State or scUM and if we beat the Badgers we will have a solid shot at winning at least a part of the Big Ten.
Very good shot at the Rose Bowl if we beat the Badgers.
Notice who the Badgers play in November and when.

part composite schedule

Saturday, November 3
Illinois at Minnesota
Indiana at Northwestern
Iowa at Northwestern
Michigan at Michigan State
Wisconsin at Ohio State
Purdue at Penn State

Saturday, November 10
Illinois at Ohio State
Indiana at Northwestern
Minnesota at Iowa
Michigan at Wisconsin
Michigan State at Purdue
Penn State at Temple

Saturday, November 17
Northwestern at Illinois
Purdue at Indiana
Western Michigan at Iowa
Ohio State at Michigan
Penn State at Michigan State

I wish for us to go undefeated but It is tough and realistically we lost a ton of experienced firepower.

My prediction is that we go 9-4 with losses to Washington, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan and win our bowl game against Nick Saban and Alabama.

I voted for 9-4. The record could be somewhat better if the defense improves from the late-season collapse they had last season.

I just don't know if the Bucks will have enough offense to get the job done. This unit needs to find a new starting QB, several new starting WR's, not to mention replacing a couple of solid starting O-Linemen and a very talented starting tailback. Back to the ball-control, take time off the clock, time-consuming drives and punting offense we go. In other words, back to Tresselball, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but in order for C. Wells to be effective, as was the case with Pittman, JT needs to spread the ball around a bit, instead of running the ball up the middle one too many times to the point where the opposing team knows what's coming.

This season might be similar to 2004 when OSU struggled until they found a QB that gave them their best chance to win. Although, the defense in '04 got better as the season went on and was a solid unit, for the most part at the end of the season, the stop troops in '07 should be much better, as most of the starters are back from a unit that was one of the nation's best up until the Michigan and the bowl (NC) game.
