With the NC chatter already beginning, and with one renowned columnist  (Larry Phillips of the Mansfield News Journal) having dismissed the Buckeyes' from contention prior to the Spring Game, I thought that the time was right for a poll on the Buckeyes' prospects for the upcoming season.

I have linked to last year's poll, so you can test the accuracy of your previous prediction. Well, at least one person got it right....

What Will Be the Buckeyes' Record in 2004?

While I truly feel we have a really, really good shot at running the table and winning the NC, I voted 10-2 only because the last time I did so was before the 2002 season, and that year turned out OK.

My brain tells me this season is filled with traps, beginning with having Miami to open the season following a summer in which everyone's focus will be on Texas. But my heart is full of hope and so I voted for 12 - 0. With this schedule and 12 - 0 two other schools would have to go undefeated and beat the Patriots along the way to get to the big show ahead of the Bucks.

I feel good about the Texas game. It should be tough, hard fought and perhaps a matter of who has the ball last, but the Bucks are at home. The Big 10 is always a crap shoot. You have to be good and lucky to get through the league undefeated.

that second option... if anyone really thinks a big ten team can beat Texas, beat Iowa, and beat Michigan.. not to mention PSU and Minny... go undefeated.. and still get screwed out of playing for the NC... must be on crack.. that is the only option id bet my house AGAINST..

Soldier, Agreed, that'd be a good bet. But some Auburn fans might have said something similar last year.

I think only 1 team from a major conference (Big East excluded) will go undefeated, but that tOSU will have one loss and not go to the Rose Bowl.

Yeah, you're right - it'll never happen in a million years. The only way that it could possibly happen is if: (1) Ohio State starts out the season with a low poll ranking, (2) the Bucks win ugly every week, and (3) both media darlings USC and Oklahoma also finish undefeated. Hmmm, sound familiar?

That being said, I do agree that such a scenario is unlikely to happen in back-to-back seasons. I added the option mainly for fun.

BTW, I voted for 10 - 2. A quarterback controversy, a gaping hole at running back, and underperformance along both lines has me concerned. If the Bucks can address those issues prior to the start of the season, then an NC is a real possibility.

My view exactly.

You're being redundant. Or do some people consider Big East a Major Conference? I don't.

Who is in that conference, anyway? Jacksonville Polytechnical Institute of Saving the Dolphins?

Only the BCS considers them a major conference, unfortunately.
