What new wrinkles or plays will we see on offense?

Just wondering what everyone else thinks? I know we see more passing to the backs in the flats and some screens. I also think we will see the slant and the out more, which we haven't seen in some time. What does everyone else think?
 
Well, it obviously depends on the O-line. They will dictate what we will be able to run. I'm a big fan of the screen pass and so I'd love to see us go to that more. With Holmes, Ginn Jr. and Bam we have some explosive receivers who could make something happen via the bubble screen to the WR.

There are reports that we will see both Zwick and Smith in the backfield on occassions, which will be interesting to see what Bollman and Coach T have up their sleeves, with that formation. Smith can be a slash type player. He can run the ball either through a hand off or direct snap, throw the ball or be a dangerous receiver out of the backfield. I like the idea of using that formation from time to time.

Obviously, Joe proved that when healthy, he can be effective in the one back set. Both Hamby and White Jr. have good hands and so we will see some throws to the TE's, much like last year. Holmes will be our big play receiver and Hollins or possession receiver, IMO.

Overall, I think our Offense will be very similar to last year. We should be quicker off the line this year, which should help. And hopefully we will be much healthier than last year.

I absolutely hate wide receiver screens, but they serve a purpose even when they don't work (which is most of the time), by making the defense focus on the wings up near the line. I would love to see slants thrown to Holmes with him hit in stride, rather than behind him or where he has to stop and wait for the ball. He and Childress (if he can actually catch the ball) are wickedly dangerous in space.

I'd lise to see some more pulling from our (hopefully) more athletic linemen. I know Mangold's got the speed for it, if noone else. We've got some good speed in the backfield, so as long as the back can stay ahead of the pursuit, he should be able to make the corner... and with a big ol' lineman to lead block, maybe get more than 2 yards and finger-tackled.

Really, though, the only wrinkle I hope to see is an improved running game. Last year was just sad. Yes, I know we were banged up. I know our line just wasn't gelling like they should have. I know there are probably a dozen reasons I DON'T know that explain it. I think a healthy Lydell, and a healthy Branden Joe, and our revamped line (assuming they can learn to work together REAL quick) will make a big difference to our ground game.

Even allowing for an inexperienced line, I look for big things from Ross. He's got the size and speed to be great. He's got the skills--we've seen flashes of it (think Fiesta Bowl). He's got the FEAR--he knows this is his one and only chance to make a statement, if not for his draft position, then at least for how his career at tOSU will be remembered. He's already alluded to it in a few interviews. I want to see him release that caged beast we all hope is within him. I want to see him graduate from finger tackles, to entire defensive line tackles, and since I'd hope that at least one of the down linemen is blocked, that means it'll be up to the LB's and DB's to bring him down, and hopefully he'll flatten at least one of those per attempt. I want to see the OSU running game as it was meant to be--3 yards and a pile of hurt defenders watching our RB sprint for the goal line, only to trip over a sprinkler head at the 10.

Wait a tick... no sprinkler heads on the field anymore... guess I'll have to settle for a TD.

What I'd like a little of, anyway.

A guess. Shotgun with 5 receivers in the pattern and quick throws. With speed in the backfield you can look a little like a 96 Florida State. Get Warrick Dunn, er, I mean Tony Pittman the ball in a variety of ways and spread it around to a bunch of recievers and establish some rhythm on offense.
