Cant add too much since I made my dream a reality in December w a grey 911 turbo. However, since enough is never enough, cars that I wouldnt mind having along side it in a 5 car garage......

2) Porsche Carerra GT. Ultimate sportscar from ultimate sportscar company.

3) Porsche 356. Red with white interior. Is there a better Sunday driver?

4) Mercedes SL55 AMG. Need a ragtop when the temps are up.

5) VW Toureg TDI. To pull the boat and cram the family/friends into. Built on the same frame as the Porsche Cayenne, but gets 25+ MPG w 600 lbs of torque.

Out in the driveway.....still keeping the Jetta TDI :). Car has been too good to me to part with. And 50 MPG makes me think Im doing my part for global warming, even though the GT gets less than 20......

you have a 996 or 997? either way that :banger:

Since around 03 all the SL's have been hardtop droptop. The SL65 is the only one of the SL's worth buying in my opinion. The Carerra GT is sick. Some other great cars...

personally i like the retractable hardtops better than ragtops but thats just me. and i kinda agree with you about MB. i am more of a beemer guy. i like the feel better and it feels more relaxed to me(in most models). MB just feels too much about luxury and real heavy but i still have a lot of respect for the company regardless.

They both have their ups and downs. My first car was a Benz, but I got an M5 for my birthday a year ago, so I like both of them. For instance, an S65 is better than any luxury BMW, but excluding the SLR, the M5, M3, and M6 are in a pretty elite class of their own. As far as SUV's go the 4.8 X5 destroys any G, ML, or GL Mercedes makes.

yea my only complaint about the new beemers is i am not much a fan of the styling. i preferred the last generations M3 and M5 in terms of simplicity and beauty more. beemers(in most cases) just have a more performance/sporty feel to them, but my taste is performance so....

IMO, the new M5's are one of the best cars ever made.

I am not a huge fan of the Bangle era BMW designs, that being said I am very close to getting a 335i.(I may wait for a 2008) I have seen a few mags with this image in them that claim this is the future look of BMW's.
I currently have an E46 M3, and for my money it is the best looking Bimmer ever.

oh its a wonderful vehicle no doubt. the new M5s are absurdly fast and their performance is ungodly. it blows the older M5 out of the water. i just don't appreciate the new styling and it just has kinda "too much" inside. i don't mind refinement, but there are too many little annoying things with the billions of controls in ammenities. if i bought the car i would leave it in M mode even if i had to sacrifice the gas mileage and everyday ride. i know the old M3's were selling the standard M3, the SMG, and the CSL. granted they were not all the same price, but i just wish there was a happy medium. take a few ammenities from the standard M3 like the radio and A/C, throw on a supercharger and take out the extra dead weight in electric windows, panel insulation, rugs, etc., and then throw in the sweet sequential paddle levers. a car like that would be a dream to me and lot of other people. however, i am not stupid and i understand they can not ever perfect a car for future models, and by offering more trims they will increase sales and the crowd they are offering to. i guess this gives me a great reason to buy a base M3(or any other car) and rip it apart and add on to it......well besides the SMG....that would be a pain.

If you want a track version M3. It is getting to be a good time to buy a used M3. With the new M coming out, and the 335 having nearly identical performance #'s the market for the E46 is quite soft right now. I bought mine back in the early spring and got a great deal on it. You can get a used one and tear out all of that stuff and not feel so bad about it. I have taken mine to the track twice and it is a frigging blast. The only mods I have made on mine are upgraded the brake pads, stainless lines, and upgraded the fluid. I have a spare set of rims that I can change either track or winter tires onto when the time comes. My only issue with the car is my boss. He does not like me driving it for work.

PS. I still have an 02 Maxima SE for sale if that so happens to be anyones dream car. :wink2:

That's sick. BTW, the 335's are disgusting. That is what my sister has. A lot of people claim that it is actually a better overall car than the new M3's.

Jeff - its a 2004 so its a 996. I bought it w just over 9000 miles on it so it was pretty cherry. The CPO warranty runs out at the end of 2010, so I will probably trade it in for a 997tt then.

I agree. To me, the BMW M series represent a compromise, not that there is anything wrong with that, it just all depends upon what you want. If you want a sportcar-esq sedan that you can drive everyday, take your gf and another couple out to dinner, and still be able to tool up and down the backroads late at night, the M5 may be just for you. For me though, it just does not offer the ultimate sports car experience, which my 911tt does provide. The flat six whine, the rear biased oversteer, the unyielding Porsche brakes, the (comparatively) spartan dashboard, the utterly useless back seats. It all provides an experience that cannot be matched by the BMW if you are basically looking for a race car that is neutered for the streets. Granted, this idea is taken to the nth degree with the GT3, but at the margins I am willing to sacrifice a little engine roar for air conditioning at this point of my life.

From my list above, anyone can tell I am a Teutonic car guy all the way, and with that I think that BMW offers some really great cars. I just dont think that they are targeting the same market at Porsche, which perhaps is just a little more sportscar purist in nature. Just my 2 cents.
