what is your high school rivalry?

Worthington Kilbourne has an 8-4 record against Dublin Scioto in the "Battle of Hard Road" since 1995, which is supposedly our rivalry because we're on opposite ends of Hard Rd.

Our real rival was always UA when I was there (maybe call it the "Suburban Battle brought to you by Jeep Wrangler"), although in our early days Kilbourne was monumentally pathetic in both football and basketball. I remember seeing starting QB Joe Palcic (whose dad was an OSU asst at the time) literally punt a ball backwards over his own head.

A bunch of students from davidson went up to Coffman on a Thursday night and painted their Green Rock Davidson Blue. More kids showed than anticipated, half of them drunk. When the police arrived, some of the kids started throwing paint cans and other crap at Dublin's Finest.

A few kids got hauled in, some made it out of there. No one left without blue paint either on them or on/in their car.

:groove:

Even with all these Div I recruits, they haven't beaten us (Coldwater) since the 90's.

Well to be fair most of those Div I recruits played in the 90's (or earlier).

The first couple of years of the school, 1965-1967 or so, Brookhaven's identified rival was Linden McKinley. The rivalry had switched to Northland by 1970. TG05 has noted that Brookhaven is Beechcroft's rival.

Anybody know when Brookhaven's rivalry switched from Northland to Beechcroft?
Sometime in the 90's. Thats when the game got to what it is today. Before that Eastmoor and Walnut Ridge was what equal to what Beechcroft and Brookhaven is today.

What some people don't realize is that Brookhaven wasn't any good until recently. Their all time win % is just about .500. My school leads the City in all time win % with .679 % won.

Eastmoor leads in all time wins.

Brookhaven wasn't really good until the divisions were realigned to the current North-South divisions. Before that it was Red and Blue and the best teams were in the Red division. Including Beechcroft, Eastmoor, Brookhaven, Northland and others.

They were perennial bottom dwellers from the late 60's until the 80s. They went one stretch without winning a game for three years, if memory serves me correctly. The basketball team was equally bad.

Back then, Brookhaven was an entirely white school. During one game we played at North High School, some heckler kept shouting, "What's on the menu tonight?", to which others answered, "I'll have some white meat". They kicked our arses so badly that eventually even we saw the humor in it.

Oh, and when you are riding the bench on that kind of team, you know you are sorry!

I've always wondered, what was the last year North was used as a HS?

I know recently it has been used as a Adult Ed school. That program has been cut. For the next two years East HS will be using it because their school is being tore down and rebuilt.

I graduated from U.A., Worthington was our rival, now that there are two Worthington's the older of the two is our rival (Worthington Thomas)...

I graduated Worthington before Kilbourne came along. Being masochists, our main football rival was Arlington. In '77, future Buckeye Bob Atha led the Cards to a win over the Golden Bears on their home field. That was our first football victory against UA since the 30's! Our mutual dislike must have been fueled by a lot of "chippy" lacrosse, swimming and gymnastics competitions.

I went to Philo...we played @Local my So year and they came to our place the next. Roush actually hurt us more than West.

Yep I was at both of those games. Never could get past the first round of the playoffs either year. Got beat pretty good by Steuby my Frosh year. Destroyed by West Branch by Soph year. Went to state finals my Junior year and got beat by Chardon. Was such a heart breaker.

Back in the day, our rivals were Briggs, and Ready... Sadly we were banned from playing them, at least in football. Maybe SIMV would be able to elaborate on something that is more in the modern age (post electricity!).
