Last time we went sailing we caught a Big Yellow fin Tuna in the afternoon.

We had Fresh Sushi that evening for dinner. Never dug restaurant Sushi but I'll tell ya, fresh is amazing.

I had no idea that Tuna are Warmblooded!! We had to bleed that sonuvabitch.

Fresh toro...like butter if you have had the good stuff.
Salmon skin hand rolls...yummmmmm
Sweet shrimp with the heads on the side...don't knock it till you have pop'ed a deep fried head in your mouth. (Besides it makes my wife gag which is always an added bonus). :biggrin:

Sushi Chic, if you get to Columbus go to Haiku in Short North on High St. They have a signature roll that is a tempura shrimp inside a roll that is like a crepe that is absolutely outstanding. Not exactly traditional faire, but delicious.

I'm not a huge fan of Haiku (like limericks much better :biggrin:), but they do have some stuff that's hard to find in C-bus. That's the first place I ever tried jellyfish, white tuna, and also tobiko with quail egg. Both were surprisingly good. Oh, and a word of advice... don't go there when you're high -- you can really rack up a huge bill!

Damn, I want sushi now!

I hope you yayhoos that said "rainbow roll", "California roll", etc., realize that those aren't actually authentic selections, but rather fancy-schmancy shit concocted for gullible gaijin (non-Japanese) back when sushi was trendy. You won't find those in Japan.

Oh yeah, you eat sushi with your fingers, not with chopsticks...

Yeah, but they're tasty!

The best sashimi I've had was tuna in Portland, OR. Can't beat sushi by the sea :)

Mili, ate a bunch of ocapaca (sp?) and ohno in Kona. Super fresh locally caught. De-lish

SC I was told that white tuna is actually junk tuna that is sold to Americans. It is super cheap to buy by the pound.

I actually like to make sushi and have done so for 10 years. Make about everything, hand rolls, Tokyo and Northern styles, preses and nagiri. For my daughters school they have auctioned off a sushi dinner I make for 6 adults, last year it went for $1600 buckaroos.

Maybe if this drink thing doesn't work out I could go into biz. :biggrin:

I cant believe I didn't see this thread earlier. Sushi is my favorite food hands down. I grew up on the coast, in Alaska actually, which has a sizeable asian population and LOTS of fresh fish. I turned my wife on to it and now she's hooked too. We spend probably $60-$80 a week on sushi( we eat it once a week as a treat). I used to smoke and I figured that I would spend about a grand a year on smokes. Now, I spend 4 times that on sushi.

Its kind of funny, neither my wife or I can eat shellfish or Squid and Octopus, but we eat everythig else. My favorite, without a doubt is Sake, then Toro, Hamichi and Maguro. In that order. After that it is a toss up between Tai and Saba. Some types of Maki are good, but my allegies prevent me from eating much but "americanized" things like Spicy Tuna Roll, which I do Like. I do always finish up with an Unagi roll though No matter what. And I tend to like Nigiri better that Sashimi simply because it is more filling and if you're on a budget and eat sushi all of the time, its more cost effective.

Speaking of which, it is sushi night.

It's spelled "opakapaka", and it is indeed good stuff...makes real good sushi.

Hopefully your drink business works, because I think it's good stuff (hey, I may need a "discounted" refill soon...hint, hint :biggrin: ).

Tobiko w/ Quail Egg Yolk

I also just like eating slices of the ginger - whether its with the Tuna, the Salmon or any other of the classic raw fish / raw fish - rice combos.

And I like Tempura for a change of pace, as in Tempura, Tobiko, Tempura Tobiko, Ginger :biggrin: Sake, Beer :biggrin: :biggrin:
