What do you consider to be a sport?

1. It must have a ball, and only one ball, in-play at a time.

2. It must involve two sides, and only two sides, alternating offense and defense, trying to dictate control or possession of the ball.

3. It must have evolved from some other ancient competition codified in Europe or a European colony at least 100 years ago.

4. If you have to ask, "Is it a sport?" It ain't a sport.

I'll give you $50 to go up and tell Jim Brown that Lacrosse is not a sport.
But isn't Lacrosse adapted from Native Americans, whose land Europeans settled and made colonies?

I know, I know ... there's also hockey and boxing. So maybe there's a clause if you include people just beating the shit out of each other.

Boxing is not a sport. It has judging just like figure skating, and there aren't really any ass beatings anymore.

I think the argument against Nascar..and Horse racing is the involvement of the equipment (or animal) in which you depend on more then the actual human competitor.

Sports should rely on the physical attributes of the human competitors not the technology of a car or the breeding/training of (another) animal (maybe for the Horse the horse racing is a sport, but for a person)

I'm on the liberal end where I'll consider things like Gymnastics and competitive cheerleading to definitely be sports..because [censored] if I could flip around like that.

The argument against Nascar is that if racing a car is a sport, then Tony Stewart is an athlete.

Golf, NO. Car racing, YES. Dwarf Tossing, hmmm maybe depending on the particular rules in play at that moment. Bowling, NO. Poker, definitively NO. Squash, YES. Skiing, YES. Figure skating, NO. Biathlon, YES. Ice Dancing, NO--unless you're the moving target for the Biathlon (which also applies to hackey sack.)

Hope that helped.
