what do u guys think about the sec

If we get there, freaky key injuries - and whoever wins the west - could well sit us down in Atlanta. We have had a run of the SECCG not f-in up the Title shot for the SEC BCS contender. '06, '07, '08 That is a statistical anomaly. It is high time for the upset. The "boost" that the SECCG has given us is nice in a close poll fight - but soon enough somebody will see their shot at the BCS title blown up in Atlanta.
The hyperbole is in place for a mulligan though.

well, each sec school gets 17 million a yr...if that is comparable then so be it...
It is, but the media is too busy slobbering over the deal to notice, and the Big Ten will not be dictated to by the BTN like ESPN has a tendency of doing. The ironic part is that Gary Danielson ran to CBS to get away from that meddling, and now they're right in his backyard again.

I'm trying to track down the statistics (I thought we had a post here somewhere), but what I've found so far:

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said the league’s two new 15-year TV contracts with CBS for $800 million and ESPN for $2.25 billion has grabbed the attention of competing conferences.

As of last year, ESPN was giving the Big10 1 billion over 10 years, and that doesn't count the very lucrative deal with the BTN, which will continue to grow in revenue.
what i meant was that under the sec espn agreement there will be a game shown every week at 12:20 est that will be on regional television..that 12:20 game used to be the raycom/lincoln financial regional game in the sec states only, but now its going national to any affiliate who will be willing to pick it up..78 markets have agreed to pick that game up. columbus was one of those areas..
Columbus is the most rabid sports market in the entire nation, backed up by statistics. I'd want to put that on TV here too, even with the hard feelings towards the SEC.

Is there an article somewhere showing me what type of game it is replacing? Is it replacing the #3/#4 B10 game of the day, or the 'we don't have a good local game so lets show usc-stanford' type of game?

If it's replacing that, then I welcome it. That's good football (just please, please don't revert to those awful LSU-Tenn 06 type games, or was it 05. That needs to be a loophole in the contract for ESPN to break ties :p).

BTN = 112 mil per year, estimated. 10.8 mil per team
B10SPN = 100 mil/yr. 10 years, 1 billion. 9 mil per team.

19.8 mil per team estimated over the life of the contract.

SECSPN = 150 mil per year, contract. 12.5 mil per year
CBS = 55 mil per year. 4.58 mil per year

17.08 mil per team contract. CBS could always restructure (and probably will).

News Corp. projects that the Big Ten Network could pay $2.8 billion to the Big Ten Conference over the 25-year life of its deal to operate the channel, according to the media company?s most recent 10-Q federal filing, which provided the first glimpse of its agreement with the conference.
The Rupert Murdoch-owned News Corp. has a 20-year contract with the Big Ten, with an option for five more years.
The total payout over the term of the 25-year agreement is based on profit projections by News Corp., and the money distributed to the schools on the front end will be significantly less than the average over the life of the deal.

Entire article: Big Ten could reap $2.8B from network deal
The big ten collected 177 million in revenue in 06-07, and that was back when many in big ten country didn't even have the BTN. During that year, the BTN paid out about 70 mil. That number has risen dramatically since then.

UF has a deal with Sunshine network for replay rights bringing in about an additional 10 mil. So we are looking at 27 mil for the athletic department before we sell a ticket or an overpriced coke.

The edge in the battle for facilities over the next ten years will swing to our two conferences and Texas in the Big 12. I honestly think that many of the other programs won't be able to keep up, making the parity thing get a little more distant than it has been. Rutgers picked a bad time to try to step up. Maybe they have a Boone Pickens somewhere....if not??

There's also the matter of the golden helmets joining the conference someday, which isn't as distant of a possibility as it once was, with their suddenly inferior revenue stream, push for a CCG format & perceived need to enhance the conference. Adding Notre Dame kicks up the revenue a few notches.

Glad to see someone found a way to help most of your conference mates catch up to the cheeseheads in Wisconsin. I'm not sure why Texas is alone in this elite group either, particularly considering they can't even win their own conference.

I agree. But those on the outside looking in will be from the ACC, Big East and Pac-10 imo.

I think if an SEC team wins the BCSCG - making it 4 in a row - then the suicide rate will go up North of the Mason-Dixon...

Unlike jort-wearing rednecks south of the Mason-Dixon (see below) us Yanks don't gain our self esteem watching teenagers play football. It's entertainment, not life.

I am sending you via visitor messages a pic for you to photoshop one small area - or not - to see what the north of the M-D line geniuses have to offer. Plus, you can use this one later this year. :p

Perhaps not. But you sure as hell get riled up when "redneck" fans have 5 beers too many and scream "SEC, SEC, SEC" as loud as possible. I think you care a lot more than you let on.

I don't know about you, but there is a whole lot of mockery and ridicule in this world. Most of it is because of the stupidity/hilarity, not how much we subconsciously care about it.
