What brilliant movie idea do you have?

Gobucki

I'm using the Internet!!!
I started writing a novel about four years ago. I got halfway through and gave up. I thought it might have made a good movie. It was a war story about all these soldiers at home in the 60's. It shows how each of them have very different home lives before joining the army, but when the Vietnam War starts they all decide to join the army. Eventually they all come in contact with each other either during basic or actually in Vietnam and each person has a different affect on one another.

I started working on a novel about 10 years ago in HS. Over the years I have worked on it on and off, but I really started working hard on it about 2 weeks ago. I'm not busy at work right now so I've been spending 3-4 hours a day working on it. It's up to 75,000 words right now and I probably have another 40-50 pages until it's done. I don't really want to get in to the plot, but it's Sci-Fi in the style of Michael Crichton. I've read a couple Dan Brown books recently so I'm using some of his style to add length and excitment. Personally I think it would make a great movie if you like Sci-fi. My buddy read it and said it was good.

That sounds pretty interesting. Why did you decide to give up?
Thanks a lot. I guess I just didn't have the time anymore. I was going through a series of relocations at the time and switching careers. I just came across it last night digging through old files on my computer. I read through what I had and thought it was really good. I might finish it one of these days.

Good for you. Keep it up. If you get it finished I'll buy one from you, even if you don't get it published.

I think it would be very cool to write a novel. I've tried several small beginnings, but don't have the time to really give it what it would take.

I've had a couple of cool ideas, one of which turned out to be similar to Fight Club. The story revolved around a guy who has a very boring life (job, no girlfriend, few friends, etc) and begins to confuse his dreams, which are much more interesting, with his real life. Eventually he starts to live more of the dream life, which gets increasingly wild and violent, as he releases his pent-up anger and boredom. I'm not sure how it would have played out and ended, but probably something along the lines of a big confrontation of the two lives with a choice to make about which one wins out and takes total control.

Who knows, maybe I'll have the time to really get into it someday....?

I'm thinking about making a movie about a guy who started a thread about brilliant movie ideas but led the topic off about "writing" a novel. :roll1:
Sweet! I'll play the star.

SIDE NOTE: I wanted it to be a movie. By novel I mean screenplay basically. But I was writing like a novel.

I've had a story bouncing around my head for the last 5 years, but I've had trouble putting it into words other than several notebooks full of ideas primarily related to the back story. It is a high fantasy/mythology on the lines of Lord of the Rings about several lost races that inhabited North America before the American Indians arrived from Asia. In typical fantasy style, there is a hero who must come to grips with his destiny and then go about fulfilling it.

I can envision this idea, if it ever gets to the printed page, being a novel, a 1-2 year television series, and a video game. I would not go with the traditional film format after seeing the soul of Lord of the Rings being ripped out of the work in the recent movies.

There are so many independent publishers nowadays that you really have to be careful...

A guy who graduated with my brother had a book of poetry published independently...ended up actually paying the place money to get it done. However, it is a way to get your foot in the door...

Kinda cool to be able to bring him up on Amazon or B&N though
