Great series BTW. I had to go back and read The Gunslinger after I had finished with the series. Luckily I didn't start reading the series until after he finished it. Otherwise the amount of time that he took between the first five books would have rally pissed me off.

FWIW King is planning on rewriting The Gunslinger to more closely match the later books.

I heard that he already did that. That the version I read wasn't exactly like the original. Apparently I heard wrong.

You're correct. The rewrite of the first book was finished several years ago (so I'm a little out of date :p).

Now apparently he's planning on redoing the rest of the books as well.

Asked about rumors of a rewrite of the entire Dark Tower novel series, King said that's correct, saying that he sees the whole series as a first draft, which is why he went back and rewrote the first novel and added to it. Now, that he has a clear vision of how the story ends and works, he feels that he should go back and rework the stories so they all work together

Picking a specific element, King noted that Horn of Eld, which is familiar to readers for its appearance and importance in the latter novels, was something that he went back and added into the new version of Book One. King said that when it is all said and done, he might end up novelizing the comic book material in the final, final version

I honestly believe that the series is slowly driving King insane....which is actually kinda cool.
