Four Novels of the 1960s (by Phillip K. Dick)

The Man in the High Castle
The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Ubik

The library had this compilation. I'm starting with the emboldened and underlined basis for Blade Runner. Rather entertaining so far, and I really dig the style of writing. When finished with it, I'll determine if I'm going to read the other three or not.

The Library of America anthology of his early novels, it's a great volume and was my introduction to PKD. I would recommend reading them all - the Man in the High Castle was my favorite, and UBIK shows up on some of those greatest English language novels lists.

Sounds like a plan! Thank you very much.

I'm sure you've figured it out but I might as well mention it for anyone who hasn't read it yet.

Do not go into this book with any expectations based on the movie!

...I hadn't realized they had done a sequel to the Talisman.

Had that very thought in mind ever since you illuminated the difference with I, Robot.

Bladerunner is one of the few times I like the movie far more than the book it was inspired by (I, Robot wasn't "inspired by" so much as it just wanted the name recognition).

I can only hope that you never had the misfortune to read Jaws or The Deep.

Movies > book

The Talisman was probably my favorite book from childhood, and I recently read Black House for the second time. Black House as a story itself is fine, but as an alleged sequel to its predecessor it fails. When you're done, let me know if you think it fits more in with The Talisman or with some other well known work of King.

I am a bit disappointed to hear that. I'll power through and see how I like it.

King's obsession with making everything tie into the Dark Tower is starting to get tiresome.
