Well researched and argued....not to mention frightening. The scope is probably a little too expansive for anyone not having spent a lifetime studying Chinese politics and history, but the author (a journalist) does a good job of distilling everything down.

Bottom line: China is not our friend. They are not our partner. They are not even an investment opportunity. They are our ruthless competitor, and we hand them our manufacturing base at our own peril. What we've done is akin to--at the height of the cold war--having allowed our companies to transfer our manufacturing base to the Soviet Union because they promised to build things cheaper while eliminating any workplace safety or environmental regulations.

Absolutely true. And they are our most likely enemy a few decades hence for the worldwide struggle of remaining petroleum resources. Their use of oil will soon dwarf our own need, and the capacity will be diminishing as the Indians use increases also. Good thing they will be our allies when we have a conventional war on that. We will need the manpower. That is why keeping the car manufacturing and shipyards open and running is so important to me. We can't be left without steel making and heavy manufacturing capacity if a conventional war a-la-WWII is in the future.

Which is also why I want our nuclear power industry to ramp up.

Read Travis's 'On Rocky Top' about Fulmer's turbulent final year in Knoxville and found him to be an enjoyable author. This book is no different as it chronicles his journey to each SEC school to take in a game during the 2006 season.

Never read anything by her...supposedly this book was sort of the foundation for M. Night Shamalamadingdong's new movie "Devil".

Generation Me. It's one of the books I assigned to my students this year and I'm reading it at the same time they are -- that's assuming they read assigned books. Tells me a good deal about the Tate Forciers of this world.

Not the best book I've ever read -- by a very long shot -- but interesting.
