The Wind Through the Keyhole, a.k.a. The Dark Tower 8, a.k.a. The Dark Tower 4.5. By Stephen King

It's supposed to be another Wizard and Glass type of novel in the Dark Tower series. IMO, it was garbage. It might have been OK if it was simply about things that happened in the same setting as the Dark Tower series, but it was forcibly and unnecessarily inserted into the same timeline with the same characters as the original series.

Just finished two Lee Childs "Jack Reacher" books, "the Enemy" & "One Shot". I guess "One Shot" is going to be released as a movie shortly... still cant believe Hollywood hears "6'5" 250 lbs Blonde guy" and comes up with "5'7" ???? brown hair Tom Cruise"

I enjoyed it. :shrug:

But I love everything about the entire series.

I also enjoyed it, but shoehorning it into some random time in the middle of their travels did seem completely unnecessary.

More than anything, it seemed like a completely random story to release as part of the series.

"Stoner" - John Williams

I know what you're thinking, dude. 1965 American novel called Stoner? Bring on the Wasabi Doritos! Well, sorry to disappoint, but this may be the least psychedelic novel ever written, about a Missouri farm-boy who goes off to college and falls in love with English literature, then has a fairly uneventful life as a professor and scholar in an unhappy marriage.

As they say about poetry, this novel "makes nothing happen", and yet it's beautifully written in a quiet and stoic prose, and ultimately very moving in its portrait of a man working hard to do well in his simple life.

Garbage was an overstatement on my part, but I thought it would have been better if the stories hadn't been part of another night of Roland telling stories. Especially when those stories were very detailed about things that he and the others apparently forgot about in later books.

The stories themselves aren't bad, and any tie-in that can be made to the Dark Tower is a good thing, imo. I just thought those stories could have been released in a separate book of short stories, rather than as a Roland flash back.

I understand. For me, one of the most beautiful parts of the Dark Tower series was when Roland tells the story of Susan Delgado. Thus, these back-in-time glances of Roland's life are things I really enjoy.

I just couldn't buy in completely for the last three books.

Light sabers, Dr. Doom, sneetches, King as a character, the lame final battle...something broke inside King when he was hit by the van, and I don't mean physically.

Understand completely. There was something "forced" about it. I just decided that I wanted to tag along for the ride regardless of whether it matched the quality from beforehand. To be honest, I had yearning for something so hard since Wizards and Glass that I just wanted to see how it all ended. Or maybe I just wanted some sort of ending for closure.

Interesting that you enjoyed Wizard and Glass so much. I was enjoying the series quite a bit until I got there. After finishing it, I lost all enthusiasm and just can't find the motivation to finish the story.
