There was a hold called on a Marshall punt. It ended up being a touchback with no return. They called the hold and ended up saying they'd enforce it end of the return - WVU ball at the 30.

Did I miss something? Was there a rule change that allows that? I thought the option would be decline, take the ball at the 20, or accept it, move em back 10 and have them kick it again.
Who knows. It looked like the officials were just kind of doing whatever they could to help wvu along at the end. It really was sickening.

I haven't read 1 post in this thread...but here are my observations.

On the last drive on the play before the 1st down PI call with about 1:30 to go. There was a play on the sideline....the ref slammed his right foot down short of the yellow line. He stood there for a second or two. Someone threw him the ball. He stepped forward with his left foot and spotted on his left toe and signalled 1st down. He moved the ball forward at least 8 inches. Next play...same ref calls pass interferance on a pass in the dirt. I rewound this play 5 times. My wife who could give a shit about football agreed that the ref moved the ball forward across the first down marker.

Then in overtime, on the run at the goal line where the Marshall guy came up with the ball in the pile. A WVU player grabs him with 2 hands, picks him up, and body slams him 2 yards back. 2 refs watch this happen with no flag. Should have been a 15 yard penalty. The fix was in late in this game.

That was simply unbelievable. The one official was no more than 5 feet away and staring directly at them...

Yeah... I thought for sure on the goal line reception to Devine (who else?) there were at least 2 holds which could have been called.

But.. even with horrid officiating, 1st and Goal, up by 15 with 8:00 to go.... gotta punch that in or get 3... putting in a freshman RB (who ended up fumbling) was a risk Doc should not have allowed. Sneak Anderson 4 times if you have to... but... dropping it on the carpet was a killer.

Disappointing outcome, but always good to see Noel Devine - what an entertaining player to watch. Cuts on an angstrom. Reminds me a lot of Dave Meggett.

Hope Devine can keep it in his shorts better than Meggett has been able to.

The Big East is a joke. Their top four teams:

  • Lost to mid-major
  • Lost to mid-major
  • Lost to Dick Rod
  • Barely beat a Marshall team that was plunger raped by the Big Ten the week before

But "Ohio's BCS school" put a hurtin' on Indiana State.
