Agreed, but I really, really don't think that a full 5 seconds ran off before the time out was called.

They didn't have a timeout left at that point, did they? The 5-second call actually saved them from a Chris Webber moment.

I've followed Rick Barnes since he was at Clemson... This is his MO... great teams under achieving. He can't get it done as a coach, its all mental with him. Can't wait to hear the Tejas fans tomorrow.

I don't think it was stupid, was a pretty solid gamble. Texas has shown the ability to be a Final Four team this year.

Unfortunately they've also shown the ability to suck ass and lose games they shouldn't.

a couple ozone posters have stated that they re-watched the inbounds play at the end of the game when the official called 5-seconds on texas. they found that the ref counted only to 4.

if this is true, you know texas message boards will be all over this... with video evidence.

I might be wrong, but isn't the rule that you can't call timeout after the ref has counted to 4?

The alternative would have been to recognize the timeout call (which they didn't have) and assess a technical. I don't think the refs are who they should be directing their anger toward - they actually did Texas a favor.
