You know, I was thinking of something today. What if scUM had a verteran QB last year that led them to, say, a 7-5 or 8-4 season with an offense compitent enough to give the defense a rest now and then and therefor not be comically bad? Then, said QB graduated and they lost several starters on defense. Now they have a true frosh QB that is apparently a starter in name only and a perilously thin defensive rotation. How would they envision this season going? That's considered a rebuilding year pretty much everywhere and expectations would be pretty low.
What I'm getting at, even though they *should* be better than last year, they still have a very young, skinny pair of QB's, Nick Sheridan, no gamebreaking WR's, a questionable OL and a thin defense. How many of them are thinking 8-9 wins simply based on DickRod's second year history, one in low level CFB and one at WVU where he played a pretty weak schedule (2 of those stops weren't even as a HC) seems questionable to me.
