Well after a hard loss, what better is there to do than look ahead?

I refuse to wtite off this season. Hey, we can still beat scUM and finish 10-2. Alot of people looked at the PSU game before the season started and were worried(I wasn't one of them:( ). Noone we have left on the schedule plays D like PSU, so maybe we can get 7 more close wins.:)

Next year will be fine, I'm just going to enjoy every bit of this one because the offseason seems to last forever.

Of course, we do have Chris Wells to look forward to next year.

:oh: :io:

glad to know the sky has already fallen on not just this year but next year. I'll be sure not to buy any tickets, or bother tuning in, b/c we're gonna suck and lose almost half of our games. Thanks for letting me know.

I don't think we're gonna make a run for the roses, but to just disregard next year is pretty stupid. We've run the ball pretty well this year, including against tough defenses... I'm not sure why there is no chance of a dominant running game.

Now thats poor form to me. Why the histronics about next year just because its obvious we will not be a NC type team? Did I say anything about notbeing excited or not watching the games?

My point is based strictly on the facts we have at hand right now and 5 years worth of data. If you hold out hope that some unknown factor will inject itself into the equation and the offense will carry the team while the defense gets some experience next year then great...tell us what that factor is in your opinion. Personally, I love to hear other opinions and am quite open minded to them if they have even the slightest grounding in reality.

To go flying off into a BN type tirade about why even tune in next year etc and start on me personally is kinda uncalled for but I understand everyones a bit frayed after last night.

i have been saying this from the time the game ended last night

we need to move on, we lost, its as plain and simple as that, why bitch and complain of what could have been, how is complaining going to get us anywhere, you think you all posting what tressel should do is going to have any affect on how we play, tressel doesn't read these forums, and if he did, would he listen to you, no because he is the head coach and you aren't, that is why he is getting paid the big bucks, because he knows what he is doing, it may look easy for you to say we shouldn't have run that play while you are watching on tv, but he has to make split-second decisions on the field and sometimes they don't always work out, its the past we can't go back in time and change it

Regular season will be anywhere between 7-5 and 9-3 depending on how quickly the D comes around.

Sad but easily predictible.
This is the part I have a problem with. Not the hate for our offense, and fear that it will produce an ugly season.

2006 schedule:
Wins: NIU, Cinci, BG, @IU, Minny, @Illinois
Should Win: @Northwestern, @Iowa
Wash: PSU, @MSU, Michigan
Underdog: @Texas

Best result: 11-1 or 10-2 IMO
Likely result: 9-3
Worst result: 8-4

I really don't see us losing more than 4 games next year. These weren't slouches that we lost to this year.

So when you guarantee that we can't win more than 9, that rubs me the wrong way.

Jax, since you seem to know the answers .... please tell me how they should fix the problems. Your pessimism is glaring, and that is fine and all, but you let it interfere with some of your logic I think. It's been established in your last few posts that you think were going to suck for the foreseeable future, how do they fix it? You go off past records and stats and leave it at that. I'm sure Tressel is aware that they have lost the last 3 road openers, and that they aren't good on the road. That's pretty easy to see, and everyone on this board can figure that out without pulling up 5 years worth of data, it's more common sense than anything else. Obviously you are an offensive mastermind, perhaps you could send Tressel an email or arrange for a meeting to discuss strategies. Hell, maybe start up a website called "firejimbollman.com"........ I'd love to hear how you think the situation could be fixed. I know we are all fans here, and some are really disgusted with the offense........but damn man, this shit gets old. Losing is painful, but reading the same recycled "we need to change (insert reason here)", or "Fire Jim Bollman" is even more painful. Obviously Tressel isn't going to fire Bollman, that has been established. Obviously we all know the offense isn't playing consistently, and something needs to be fixed. Instead of pointing out what everyone already knows, how about pointing out how you think they can fix it.

Many times on here I've said we need a complete overhaul of the offensive coaching staff not just Bollman. We need a real OC and he needs to have the power to do his job.

Its either that or just keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. If you go that route just learn to live with the bitch about the offense threads because the horrific underperformance is simply maddening. far too much NFL caliber talent on offense the past 5 years for the level of production we've gotten in return.

We're right back to 90 something NCAA offensive rankings for the 5th year running under Tressel and about the 7th year running overall. I'm sorry but thats just not acceptable.

I just posted the schedule right above the post you responded to. Rather than a blanket statement of 5 losses, which 5 teams can we going to lose to?

Well first of all I said between 7-5 and 9-3 was the most likely record. I never said we are going to lose 5 games for sure so quit trying to spin it that way.

2ndly I didn't see your schedule post so now that I have I'd say our most likely chance for 3-5 losses would come from:

@Texas
@MSU
@Iowa
@NU
PSU
scUM

Those are the most likely spots for a loss, I didn't say were gonna lose them all just that they are the most likely spots. Hardly shocking stuff, let it go.

there was no way psu was going to go 6-0 this year... so I think its equally hard to predict how we're going to do next year. Sorry for the spin, I guess in repeating the part I didn't like, it eventually became misleading. I realize you weren't promising that we'd lose 5.

MoC singlehandedly changed our fortunes in 2002. When he was healthy, we were a high-powered offense. When he got hurt that changed. CWells & Pittman could bring back our rushing game. Pittman is a stud, but isn't big enough to take 25 carries. Give Haw & MWells another year too, and we could do some good things.

Without holmes, we will focus on more I-formation sets probably. Dionte is a monster at FB. I can see our running game doing good things next year. Pittman just needs some freaking help and carries.
