Welcome: Irish Fans (Merged)

Welcome aboard WND. Stick around as the only Irish voice we have here is NotreDameChief...and we'd like the sane viewpoint for once :wink2:

Edit: Since this thread has taken off, let throw out my welcome to all of our Irish visitors. We do our best to keep a certain level of discussion and respect on this board. Please feel free to debate the merits of your team, but please do so with a mutual respect. Flaming, trolling, and general program bashing is not allowed and can lead to some consequences none of us want to see...this goes for fans of both programs.Hopefully, we can all keep a productive dialogue going until what should be an incredible game. Again, welcome to BP.

welcome. we enjoy outsiders a lot on this board (NDChief gets a lot of flak, but we like him), as long as they can make a logical argument (even if they favor the wrong team . there will always be some on any buckeye board that don't like a regional power like ND. try to tune them out, and you should be in for some good discussions.

Make sure to check out the video forum to see some highlights (we even found a big ND video page which we have enjoyed):

ND Pass Offense vs OSU Pass Defense:
ND has an excellent passing game. Brady Quinn has Samardzija, Stovall, and Fasano to connect with. OSU has an excellent pass defense. I think that ND has the advantage.

ND Run Offense vs OSU Run Defense:
We won't be able to run the ball. Period. Mark a point for OSU.

ND Pass Defense vs OSU Pass Offense:
All OSU needs to do is use the deep ball. OSU gets the point... Take into consideration that Zbikowski is a big playmaker, though.

ND Run Defense vs OSU Run Offense:
I really think that the Irish will contain the OSU run. It'll be close. We couldn't hold off Bush, but we did stop LenDale White.. I'll give this one to the Irish.

Special Teams:
OSU has a dangerous return team. Our return defense is mediocre. Score one for the 'Bucks.

Intangibles:
Giving Weis a month to prepare, that's a huge intangible. ND gets this one.

My prediction:
PK (for all you non-betters, that means pick ;P)

I can see your point here, but isn't that also a possible negative for Charlie? Being as cerebral as he is rumored to be, a coach's worst enemy can sometimes be his own mind. He can out-think himself so to speak. On the other hand, JT has this experience in bowl preparation (and he is pretty darn good at it).

I can see the coaching going either way...and let's not leave out Jim Heacock and company getting a month to plan for ND's offense. The last high powered offense we faced in a bowl (Miami) found quite a bit of unexpected heat when the game began.

Basically, no matter how you spin it, this game looks to be an excellent matchup.

Hey..Tressel can also coach!

Exactly grad 21! I am find with everyone giving kudos to Charlie Weis..but keep in mind that Jim Tressel is as good as anyone out there. It seems like with the loss to Texas people don't mention Tressel in the discussion when they are talking about Charlies Wies, Pete Carroll..etc but there were quite a few reasons that we could point to for losing the Texas game.
Tressel has 5 NC's and a BCS bowl win over Kansas state. He is also 4-1 against Michigan. So he know's a thing about coaching and I think people are overestimating Coach Weis and not giving any credit to Coach Tressel here.

And it is not like ND won some unbelievable games either..they had a great season but they still lost to USC and Michigan state at home. So the bottomline is, I don't think ND has a big coaching advantage over Ohio State..taking into consideration all the superbowl rings and the re-emergence of ND.

Go Bucks!

good analysis. If our defense wasn't lethal against the run, I would be more worried about Weis' excellent ability to expose weaknesses in the opposing team's defense.

Grad is right that JT can plan with the best of them. However, I think we were somewhat susceptible to a good passing game (MSU, Minny) some of the time.

A big part of this game is the battle in the trenches. I was not watching that battle in their earlier game, but against Stanford the ND OL was like swiss cheese. They've got a lot of work to do before Carpenter (he'll be back), Green/Pitcock, and Kudla come to town.

Welcome aboard ND. Looking forward to hearing from some learned Domers, and looking forward to a great game. But if you think this gives you the advantage, you don't know Jim Tressel. Charlie's record in the NFL post-season is impressive. But, as yet, he's got no record in post-season at the college level. Tressel has been doing this his whole life. His record against scUM, his record in the bowl games, his record in I-AA playoffs, all indicate he may be the best college coach at ending the season with a win.
