Good question! BTW, MSU joined the conference in '50 but didn't participate in any sport until '53... didn't remember that until my last guess.

It was somewhat of a trick question. I figured the 'while a member of the conference' thing would steer people away from Penn St.

Correct. During the NC year of 1954m when trailing Wisconsin 7-3, Hopalong grabbed a pass in the left flat and went 88 yards to put the Buckeyes ahead.
