Howdy!

My bro-in-law is working on his PHD at tOSU. The inlaws and myself are coming up to visit and take in the game this weekend.

This is my first trip to Columbus and I wanted to get your insight and opinions for must sees of tOsu (on/around campus items I can't leave Columbus without seeing/experiencing. Also, any recommendations for lunch and dinner in Columbus. The most popular college places is what I'm looking for including Friday night pubs/festivities to do the night before the game.

I can't WAIT to experience the excitement of "The Shoe." Very few Universities and stadiums/gameday experiences compare to Texas A&M and the 12th Man @ Kyle Field. I have NO doubt that tOsu will be incredible and am very impatiently waiting to witness the "dotting of the i."

Finally, I'll be there on Saturday cheering for the scarlet and grey (and likely checking the A&M/OkSt game on my phone). I am dying that it's a 2:30p kickoff as well.

Make sure that you go to the band's Skull Session, which is 2 hours before kickoff in St. John Arena. The OSU Marching Band is a major part of game day, and missing the Skull Session should be a crime. Other than that, I haven't spent much time around campus in about 7 years, so that's where my useful advice ends. Enjoy the game and experience!

I'll add my weak answer to the rest. Meaning, I'm definitely not a student (my first OSU game in the Shoe was Oct. 13, 1968) and so don't really know what you (or anyone else under the age of 30) might enjoy.

I would say your planning starts with "where will we park"? And then work from there. If you're west of the river, you might end up at Champs or something after the game.

If you park closer to High Street, I would say that after the game, nothing would be more of a Buckeye experience but to walk with the (happy) crowd up to High Street and jump in a couple of bars up there, grab some junk food, do some people watching, etc., and wait a couple hours for the traffic to die down.

Just be sure to wear your dog tags so if they find you passed out in an alleyway they will be able to find your friends and family!

The team leaves the skull session two hours before kickoff. Get there thirty min before that.

There should be a ton of tailgating, mill around and enjoy the atmosphere. If you don't have tickets, this is an unprecedented slump in ticket pricing. Usually only the worse games go for near face value, with Colorado above, big ten games 100+ and big games in the 200s. It cost 500 to get into Tejas 05. This year folks are getting in for half of face.

Hopefully the atmosphere doesn't suffer. If Braxton starts as rumored, and OSU wins by over two TDs as projected by vegas it should be fine. The mediocre games do not have great crowd noise in general.

South of downtown is German village, which has a long list of great restaurants, bakeries, tourist spots and vintage charm. It is a beautiful, well maintained village with unique old styling. nothing you must see, just a charming place to walk around.

Thurman's, Schmidt's, Katzinger's are all famous. Look up German village on trip advisor.

My favorite is pistachia Vera. Their macarons are incredible, especially the pistachio flavored ones, which I would never have thought to make or eat.

The Ohio state athletic facility is not open to the public.

The Buckeye hall of caf? used to be near the stadium but moved really far away.

Like others have said, try not to miss the Skull Session... It is a truly unique experience. They may have activities outside of the Skull Session as well. It's been a couple of years since I've been to a game. (Penn St. '08 season)

If you do head to German Village, don't meander too far east. If you cross Parsons Avenue, well.....just don't cross Parsons Avenue.
