Week 8 Game Discussion Thread

how utterly incompetent were we week 2?

Wouldn’t say incompetent. Defense didn’t have an identity and the offense missed multiple throws and catches by their best players. I’d argue the issue was Smith & Day not having a specific goal in the 2nd half. Didn’t run the ball and run clock to use that strategy, didn’t have the passing plays to get the offense into a rhythm.

Even then we dominated that game for 75% of it.

It’s more a fluke what happened the other 25%.

Was a bad loss though no way around it. Not bad in terms of optics but just we clearly were the better team by a long shot.
some of you need to rewatch that game. They ran the ball all over us, and had plenty of open receivers all game long, they just had a case of the dropsies in the first half, and we took advantage. The only thing that changed in the 2nd half is they completed the plays and we got the yips when trying to put it away, the Day staple, it seems.

I was thinking about it in the context of just the CFP and realized I was watching a few games yesterday that I normally wouldn't have because they were essentially CFP elimination games.

Just like I watch mid to late season NFL games for the same reason.

One door shuts and another one opens. Maybe the 24 team playoff won't be so bad if they adjust the schedules like being floated. I'll watch two P4 teams fighting to avoid the 3rd loss (or whatever) in mid October.

My main concern for the sport of CFB is more the quality of the play. Sort of like NFL in that once a teams starting QB is out, it's just madness. No one can afford a really good and proven back up because the 5 year rule. Its always going to be a talented inexperienced guy, or a talent-challenged experienced guy.
