Week 7 CFB Open Thread

In the Auburn-South Carolina game earlier today, the Aflac trivia question was to name the 5 overall #1 NFL Draft picks for the two schools. They blabbed about it for a long time, then gave the answer as Auburn: Bo Jackson, Aundray Bruce, Cam Newton, and USCe: George Rogers and Jadaveon Clowney. They missed Auburn’s Tucker Frederickson, who was taken first in 1965, ahead of Butkus, Sayers, and Namath. I didn’t watch the whole broadcast, did anybody see if they corrected their mistake?

Wasn’t watching that one so I don’t know if the network corrected their mistake, but the New York Giants would like the chance to correct THEIR mistake

In the Fox pre-game, they talked about 2-point conversions today. Brady Quinn gave the example of a team down by 14 scoring a TD to get down by 8. Having them go for 2, cause if they get it, they can win with a 7, and if they don’t they can still tie with an 8.

Memphis did just that today, and got to within 6. There were more TDS on each side, but that successful 2-pointer set up their 1-point win. Memphis got a 7, and each team got a 6 with a missed 2-pointer after Memphis got the 8 to pull within 43-37.

A rare successful gamble on the 2-pointer when going against conventional behavior helped get the win.

It's always a good idea when it works. But I have seen the 2 when down by 14 to get within 6 used in other games, so there must be an analytic.

UCF had a blocked conversion in the first half, setting the two-pointer wheels in motion. That one point was big in the end.
