The BCS doesn't allow margin of victory to be a factor in any computer poll. The one poll that DOES allow margin of victory (regular Sagarin) has us ranked HIGHER when considering MoV and lower when MoV is discounted.

OSU's one and only problem in these polls is that the teams we've beaten (Iowa, Miami O., SDSU) have seriously underperformed. A win at PSU will cure many ills.

The ratings are affected by a number of things.

1. We lost to Texas. Their other opponents so far have a 3-8 record.
2. Our wins are against teams with a 7-7 record.
3. The opponents of the teams we beat are 20-27.
4. So, our opponents are 11-7 and their opponents are 26-32, counting us.
4. We have been inconsistent and did not hang a big score on SDSU.

On the other hand, the teams we played are 7-0 the last two games, not counting Iowa's loss to us. These teams are all looking better as the season proceeds. We need them to do so in order to rise in the Sagarin ELO ratings.

Beating Penn State would raise us to #6 in the regular Sagarin's. Beat Penn State, Michigan State and Minnesota and the rankings will take care of themselves.

Steve, Good comments, but I don't buy #4, since margin of victory is excluded from the BCS computer polls.

On a different topic, how about the Massey poll having a 1-loss Miami team ahead of USC?
