Week 5 Games Discussion

Baltimore is fucking terrifying if you don’t have a guide.

Ooh microbrew, oh craft brew, oh winery, oh fuck, we went a block too far and are in The Wire.
This is literally true: one time during a conference I walked from the convention center to Edgar Allan Poe’s birthplace on a day it was closed due to construction and actually ended up in an episode of The Wire.

There's a minimum level that matters. Parts of the US are 3rd world. I say this having lived in 3rd world countries and in parts of the South.
Alabama is under that level. As a contrast, Georgia is not.

That area is so Jeckyl-Hyde. Extreme wealth one block and slums and crime the next. DMV is the same.
It's not a coincidence the train stops at Glen Burnie and they never finished the line to Annapolis or E Shore. Those people want to pretend the rest of the State doesn't exist.

Cannon is another one.
Probably spent time at ~20 bases, and I'm still amazed at how bad that place is. Biloxi couldn't hold a candle to Cannon.
I've never been to Cannon but had friends stationed there and heard the horror stories. I've been to Holloman on site visits in my IG days...it was awful (GREAT Tex-Mex, though). Cannon, Holloman, Minot, Ellsworth and Barksdale are generally considered the worst assignments in the CONUS. I had my first Tech School at Sheppard in Wichita Falls and would add that to the list.

Honestly, pre-Katrina, Biloxi wasn't a bad spot for a single guy. I went back for training for 9 months in 2006 about 7 months after Katrina and it was like being in Dresden. Just hollowed out buildings, detritus all over. It was awful. It's built back up since. Fuck that heat/humidity, though.
