Anybody who is uncertain about the targeting rule should watch the replay review in the Ga Tech/NC State game, with just about 6 minutes left. The ball carrier is wrapped up by 2 guys, on his way down, and a third defender puts his head down and blasts the guy right in the helmet with the crown. Helmet-to-helmet, no face masks involved. I thought, well, theyll get this one right.

The ACC reviewed it and said they couldn’t confirm the crown and waved it off. WTF?

NC St was down by 2 points with 1:30 left and GT only had 1 timeout. The Wolfpack RB broke free and scored from 40 yards out: if he had been told to, or been really sharp, he could have gone down inside the 5, they could have taken 3 knees, called timeout with 3 seconds left to win the game with basically an extra point, and won. Instead GT scored their own TD with 22 seconds left to win, although they even needed a 58-yard FG to be wide by about half a yard as time ran out.

Dan Mullen and the play-by-play guy never mentioned it as a possibility.

Terry Donahue is the only UCLA coach I remember ever having the Bruins compete with the Trojans when the Trojans were any good.

And that was 50 years ago.

NIL makes it even harder for the Bruins to compete. Big city - with very little interest in college football. And a bigger name school closer to downtown. And two NFL teams. And the Dodgers.

Having the Trojans on the same level as the Bruins when the Bruins are on a first year coach who got an emergency promotion when the former head coach left to take an OC position elsewhere... That is some first rate pooch screwing.
