I also chuckle when I hear the salaries of soccer coaches. Is there a coach in a major team sport with less of an impact on the game?

I disagree. Setting the lineup, formation, disposition to attack/counterattack and making substitutions are vital to the outcome of matches. Furthermore, since substitutions are finite and play only stops once for halftime, the importance of each of the manager's decisions is magnified compared to other sports.
