just sayin.

This is not a black president. This is not some small medical device. This is not even something new. If is an internal combustion engine. A device that has been in use for over 100 years and studied to no end by millions. Not only that, he claims to quadruple efficiency (which is impossible).

Ohh, and people laugh at the bums who talk to themselves and claim to be Jesus. Perhaps I should start taking them serious too. Who would have known there are multiple Jesus' sitting around on street corners. You better go hang out with them in chance they are actually Jesus.

Just sayin.

Those are the idiots I am referring to. Of course if people here really think a fired Ford worker had the secret to brake thermodynamic laws, you are in that group too.

BTW...it is possible to make a 100mpg car right now out so a IC engine. Yet nothing that makes sense from a cost perspective.

Oh, let me add....if you really think car companies are keeping fuel economy away from the consumer on purpose, time for a lobotomy. It's all about cost, and eventually there are diminishing returns on cost for fuel economy. They are not in cahoots with the oil industry. The auto industry could care less about oil. They make cars. If they could make one that ran on water and made financial sense they would.

speaking only to the bolded portion. technically they ARE keeping more fuel efficient technologies away from the market. specifically because of the cost involved. :P

i completely agree with the rest. there is no silver bullet for the fuel issues. anyone claiming to have the cure all is probably sending a lot of e-mails from nigeria as well.

People won't buy it.

funny you say that. about 6 months ago my gf was shopping for a car. while at a ford dealership one of the salesmen tried to interest me in an f150. i asked him when they were going to put a medium displacement turbo diesel in them and that was his response. his argument was increased torque and fuel efficiency wasn't enough to get people to pay the extra 5k for a truck. my response was, "i would, guess thats why im not one of your customers". sadly he's likely right as im not a customer of anyone else at this point either and have been researching building my own truck for the last year.

Thanks for the semantics.

BTW...assuming it's still in the plan, you will see a fuel efficient diesel hit the market next Summer from 1 of the big 3. Of course with the current situation, it may have been scrapped.

assuming your not talking about bmw... plausible but i wouldn't bet on it. ford was pushing a 4.4l diesel for the f150 about 2 years ago. seeing as it was supposed to hit show room floors sometime this year... im thinking no. even then, a 4.4l is still overkill. a turbo or supercharged 3l v6 would be more than enough for an f150.

1. You can't improve the IC engine that much.

im not certain anyone in this thread agrees with that statement. imo gm has done amazing things with their lsx line of engines. problem is advancement in technology comes with a price tag. if you want minimal financial investment, you can't expect revolutionary performance. a 100mpg 80 billiontymillion hp super performance car for $8.36 is a tad laughable. a 60+mpg vehicle of roughly the same size, performance, and cost of a prius? not only 100% possible. theres more than one and are being sold right now. just not in this country.

fast
cheap

pick any 2.

Yes I can believe in both.

I will be in Wauseon for the county fair and go check it out.

If you believe in anything, then you should believe that IC engines don't have limits.

If you meet the guy, ask him why he claims IC engines get 8% efficiency when it's simply not true. Even if you take into account drivetrain and accessories the efficiency for a poor vehicle is around 15% at the tires. Also ask why he uses ethanol and feels the need to use a conversion factor to get his fuel numbers. Why not use regular gas?

I know the answers, but I wonder what his reaction would be.

edit: Thought of a couple more....how about safety standards his Mustang no longer meets. To even be a player anymore he would need to meet not only federal standards but be at or close to 5*. That would add a couple hundred more pounds. Then add in emissions standards, which I am sure he does not meet. Finally, how does he plan to keep cost down on such a low volume car. With a volume of only 2000, even a remake of a Yugo would cost $30,000 with that volume. This thing has huge fail written all over it.

Dodge has 5.0L V8 diesel that was announced. It is a fuel efficient diesel, and the gearing is made for that. I think Ford was looking into something similar. Like I said, may be scrapped at this point.

To the fuel economy thing...I know really fuel efficient cars are possible. Especially with diesel. The VM Lupo gets about 80mpg highway. Yet that is a tiny diesel engine in a tiny car. This guy uses ethanol in a supposed otto cycle engine in a car claiming to get 400HP.

BTW...I did look up a follow up on this car. I need to find the article again, but I guess a news source drove the car 100 miles or so. They got 50mpg, and that was highway driving. Not exactly revolutionary considering he is supposed to have spent $250,000. Give me $50,000 and I could do the same thing. The problem is doubling and even tripling fuel economy is not worth $50,000.
