REDSKINS SIGN FINAL DRAFT PICK, TE DAVIS

Ashburn, VA (Sports Network) - The Washington Redskins have now signed all 10 of their draft picks after agreeing to terms on a contract with tight end Fred Davis.
Davis, who was taken by the team with the 48th overall selection, was the second of three Redskins' second-round picks in last April's NFL Draft.
The University of Southern California product won the 2007 John Mackey Award, given to the nation's best tight end, after he led USC with 62 receptions to go along with 881 yards receiving and eight touchdowns.
In his stay at USC, the 6-foot-3 Davis also set career records for the tight end position with 13 scores and 117 catches.
To make room for Davis, the Redskins released tight end Tyler Ecker, who spent his rookie season last year on injured reserve with a groin problem.

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins and rookie tight end Fred Davis agreed to a $3.5 million, four-year contract on Saturday, a day before training camp opens.
The deal includes a $1.8 million signing bonus for the 6-foot-4, 247-pound Davis, who was taken in the second round, 48th overall, out of Southern California in April's NFL draft.
"I can say I'm finally a Redskin," Davis said.

Skins trade for Dolphins' Taylor after Daniels goes down

After losing defensive end Phillip Daniels for the season, the Washington Redskins moved quickly to fill the void.
The Redskins acquired Jason Taylor from the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins will receive a second-round pick in 2009 and a sixth-rounder in 2010.
According to ESPN.com's John Clayton, Taylor told the Redskins he did not need to renegotiate and was willing to play for the final two years of his contract. He is scheduled to make $8.1 million this season. With around $9 million of cap room, the Redskins were able to work the trade quickly.
The Dolphins had been waiting for an opportunity to trade Taylor, who asked to be moved to a playoff contender at the beginning of the offseason. Before the draft, the Dolphins were asking for a first-round draft choice. They lowered the demand later to a second-rounder.
Taylor didn't win over Miami executive vice president of football operations Bill Parcells by missing all of the team's offseason work while competing in ABC's "Dancing With The Stars."

MRI confirms knee sprain for Skins DE Taylor, out 10-14 days

ASHBURN, Va. -- Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor is expected to be sidelined 10-14 days with a sprained right knee, putting his availability in doubt for Washington's season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 4.

Coach Jim Zorn said Taylor underwent an MRI on Sunday and estimated the six-time Pro Bowl pick will be out from 10 to 14 days.

Taylor was hurt in a 47-3 preseason loss to the Carolina Panthers on Saturday. Initial X-rays taken Saturday night showed no serious damage.

Contd....

Signed DT Albert Haynesworth to a 7-year/$100 million ($41 mil guaranteed) deal. Finally getting a premier DT.

They also signed DeAngelo Hall to a 5-year/$54 million deal. Good move here as well.

Spending millions and millions of dollars for free agents has certainly worked well for the Skins in the past.

Is Hall worth 11 mill a year? Based on what I've seen from him, it's a definite no.

I'm not a 'skins fan so I really don't care, but yeah. Seemed like a massive contract for a guy who tends to be an ass, and really isn't one of the better CBs in the league.

Well, at least they aren't spending the big money on old guys who are past their prime. Steady improvement by DS.

As for Hall, I think he can be a top 5 corner when he plays up to his potential (see: not being an ass). He played solid for the 'Skins last year, so I have a little bit of hope.

In contrast, Asomugha just signed a 3 year, 45 million dollar deal (with escalators to $50 large). The first two years are guaranteed money (28.5 mill). Hall is also fairly young. He'll come off the books at age 30, unlike many past disasters. Maybe they overpaid a little bit, but they need help at the position and he's a talented guy. I don't mind that signing.

It's nothing like giving a #2/#3 wr incredible money to come over from the steelers, let alone pay future hall of famers money during their retirement.

I didn't watch Hall last year. I heard he did well, but it seems like every time I do watch him he's not doing well.

Signing him might be the end of Shawn Springs in Washington though.

DHall was a top-5 corner before the falcons tomfoolery took over... he wasn't at that level last year, but too many DBs have not panned out for Washington to let Hall walk.
