I don't think it was racist. I think it showed some pretty piss poor character research however.

I mean, really Hollywood. Not everyone in the hood acts like the guys in that movie. And if they do act like that, at least they are more convincing. And they don't wear damn near the amount of colorful clothes as that gangster ass gangster was wearing near the end.

Coming from a black man, the only thing I've seen that's gotten it right was The Wire.

Like you wouldn't have minded resetting that countdown every hundred and some mnutes if they would've had a decent wine cellar, instead of Dharma beer.

I read the book-but haven't seen the movie- and, unfortunately, Michael Oher's birth mama fulfills just about every negative ghetto stereotype one could think of. That said, I can't see how anyone could think the overall story was racist. One thing that the book didn't come out and say, but did imply,IMO, was that Sean Tuohy, from his experiences playing hoops for Ole Miss in the early 80s, being the radio voice of the Grizzlies, and owning 40 Taco Bells-was more comfortable around African Americans than many white Southerners in their cultural enclave.

Not commenting on details here I guess, dramatic license and all that, but...how can it be racist if it's a true story? I mean, what were they supposed to do, change what really happened to make the kid white or the parents black? "Here's the Michael Oher story...except it isn't really Michael Oher or his family because we were afraid of offending somebody" Seems rather straightforward to me since, you know, the kid really exists, and his family does too.

Well, I think the racism would come into Hollywood's continual ability to scour the ends of the earth for stories of white people coming to the rescue of helpless black people rather than producing a movie of the, I'm sure countless, stories of black people helping other blacks.

I can see that I suppose, though with movies like Coach Carter and stuff I think they have done that some as well. But to an extent people have to realize that with our history comes these stories, to a certain extent. I mean, look at the Texas Western story..."Ah, white guy starts black players and he's the hero, blah, blah, blah"...well, SOMEONE had to do it, and there weren't a lot of black coaches at major schools for the very reason that the story is important. Right?

IF they had a decent wine cellar, I wouldn't have made it to the 3rd cycle.
