Wanting to be a Buckeye

Dunno about you guys, but I NEVER want a kid who doesn't truly want to be a Buckeye from the bottom of his heart.

Those kind of kids just don't "get it".

We need kids like Taz, God bless him, who will give their all when crunch-time comes because they LOVE The Ohio State University.

I say good luck to Alex, and I hope he plays close attention to Ohio State's accomplishments during the next four years, especially relative to Minnesota.

There are alot of current Buckeyes that didn't know if they wanted to be a Buckeye until the end of the process.

That doesn't mean they aren't Buckeyes. It just means they want to explore all options.

I guess I should clarify and say I'd MUCH MUCH MUCH rather have a kid who just wants to be a Buckeye than an ungrateful/indecisive kid that doesn't understand that he should just be thankful to have an offer in the first place.

I understand that kids explore options, and that's wise... but to flat out say that the pressure to stay home aggravates him (or other recruits, it's been said before) always rubs me the wrong way.

Who cares what other people tell you to do? Just make the decision and quit crying about it.

Just my .02.

How do you know he's ungrateful? You don't. I mean, he's 17 years old and people are telling him where to go repeatedly. Do you remember being 17? You felt independent, and choosing a college is really your first life changing decision that you get to make. Not everyone else. If everyone in the world (except his mom, actually) is pushing you one way, you wouldn't like it. Doesn't mean you won't still make that choice, but pressure might be pushing him one other way. That doesn't mean he might not appreciate every offer and every call from a coach. I don't know how you can say he's ungrateful.

Does being indecisive mean he has no heart or can't play? No. I hate this notion that if a person picks their college closer to signing day, they're less of a team player or less of a man. He's probably a huge Buckeye fan, but that doesn't mean it's the perfect fit for him. It's a huge decision and he probably has no clue what he wants to do. He probably wants to respect his mom's wishes and play elsewhere, but he probably realizes OSU is the best place for him.

Sure, it would be great if every recruit bled scarlet and gray, but our team would suck. A lot of recruits we get also list Michigan on their top schools, but we still take them happily. Why is that?

This drives me nuts. Daniels is getting pressure from a ton of people to stay, and pressure from his mom to leave. He doesn't know what to say or do because he's confused. If he ends up a Buckeye, are you going to be upset because he doesn't "want to be a Buckeye"?

This mentality that "a player from Ohio should automatically want to be a Buckeye when they get offered or we don't want them at all" is ridiculous. Spielman, of all people, came down to scUM and OSU. Who here thinks he is not a real Buckeye? If Daniels chooses in the end to come here, great, I would take him in a heartbeat. If he doesn't, his choice, and good luck.

Agreed. Alot of current, and former Buckeyes came down to scUM/OSU.
They chose OSU, but it was a tough decision.

This is the kind of b-nuts bullshit that we need to squash over here. Teddy Ginn took his visits and thought things over-does that mean he is less of a Buckeye, then, say, Joel Penton, because Penton committed in May before his senior year. The people who come up with this line of reasoning every year need to watch some more football. I'll bet there are a lot of 6'0 200 OL from schools like St. Henry or Amanda-Clearcreek who live, eat, and breath football and are die hard Buckeye fans. Should we offer these guys over some 6'4 300 monster from Glenville or Elder who wants to look around a bit before saying no to scUm and Oklahoma and yes to the Buckeyes..................
