Quotes after the game via Adam Jardy:

Aaron Craft: "It?s all about playing hard. I?ll dive on the floor and I?m sure these guys will too."

That's wrong. If he plays like he did today, Craft is going to lead the team in "dives" to the floor/out of bounds by a wide margin this year. Matta's mostly got a collection of "white collar" players who make plays with athleticism rather than hustle. Craft is clearly the most "blue collar" guy out there. If he's repeatedly diving out of bounds to try to save the ball against Walsh, you have to think he will keep it up as the competition improves. Craft is going to be the crowd favorite due to his hustle plays.

It's just a fact that Craft dove for balls 4 or 5 times vs. Walsh and the other guys had 0 or 1 dive apiece - if he keeps that trend up, there's little doubt Craft will lead the team in dives for loose balls by a wide margin. The other guys dive for balls occasionally, but not nearly as often - I'm not saying they don't play hard, but they aren't really hustle players like Craft. I didn't see Conley and Oden out there diving for balls very often - clearly Craft will outdistance them in number of dives as frosh as well if he keeps it up - doesn't mean Conley and Oden didn't hustle, just they weren't the type of hustle player that Craft is. Same goes for the other guys. You're taking it the wrong way. I'm not saying they don't hustle, just that they're not the type of hustle player that Craft is - what I'm saying is more of a compliment to Craft than anything.

For the first time in years, I missed the exhibition, so I can't do my annual exhibition game breakdown this year. Anyone who saw the game care to go player by player and give your observations on how the guys look this year?

well, it certainly read like a blatant and unwarranted criticism of his teammates:

last year's team consisted of marathoners who battled and generally succeeded until the final whistle... but you're going to call them out for being "white collar" players who didn't hustle as much as they should have? :shake:

You are correct. 6-8 PM on BTN this evening is correct. Buckguy must have been hyperventilating over some of DZ8's comments:)
no... just going by what is posted on the big ten network's webpage:

Dude, don't read too much into everything. I was just making characterizations of players among groups - white collar and blue collar - and I described what those categories were. There are hustle players who make an unusually high amount of hustle plays/dives to the floor and then there are most players who aren't that type of player - that sounds better, but it's the same thing as what I said only with less detail on the other category.

Why don't you take it upon yourself to watch every game and count the number of times each player dives for loose balls, so you can critique my analysis. If you do that, I will be glad to admit if my analysis proves incorrect. Otherwise, just let it go.

Dude when a guy is closer to the floor because of his height and he can get to the floor much faster. Lighty and JD give up their bodies quite a bit to get the ball. Some guys are like that and some aren't. You don't see guys like Lauderdale and Sullinger diving for balls but they battle for the ball in another style. I have never seen one Ohio State basketball player look at the ball while it is going out of bounds and not make an effort to save it. Same with a ball just rolling free on the court.

You are a lot of fun:lol:

Much ado about absolutely nothing.

Craft is the kind of guy, like Chris Jent and Nick Dials were before him, who will dive for every single loose ball. I don't see it as some sort of slam on the other players in saying that he has more "hustle" than them. Just like some guys have more athleticism, some have a better shooting stroke, etc... Doesn't mean the other guys don't work hard and give 100%, just that Craft does it a bit better.

Really? Ever watch Brian Cardinal from Purdue? He dove to the floor a lot in spite of being a big man. He even wore knee pads.
