Walsh at Ohio State (Exhibition, Nov. 4, 8pm)

Took my 9 year old son to the game last night and here are my toughts?.

1) Love the scoreboard
2) Love the man to man defense. We really got after it and not as many wide open looks from 3 for walsh
3) We are scary good when we get out on the run. Looked like old school ?showtime? a couple trips down the floor
4) Turner = smooth and all over the place. Finished strong and rebounded like a mad man. 15 pts 14 reb 6 assists 1 turnover
5) Lighty looked very fast and athletic. Strong move to the bucket and hitting some long jumpers
6) Buford is more explosive and looks like he hit the weight room a little.
7) Diebler hit a couple but he missed some open ones too. IMO we need him to be a THREAT from 3 and then this team will be VERY hard to defend
8) Wished Lauderdale played but madsen did ok. Got a couple cheap fouls but hit both his jumpers. Zisis is tall and he blocked 3 or 4 shots. Defense was decent and rebounded better than mullens, lol
9) Simmons looked good coming off the bench at the 2. Hill was hill. Lots o energy and hit a couple 3?s
10) Offutt played some good defense and drove the bucket very aggressively.
11) Kecman is a big dude and he has a good shot. Hit at least 1 3 ball
12) Rebounding was decent but we need to clean up the defensive board better. Getting Lauderdale back will be huge
13) Basketball refs still suck.

I can't say I'm surprised Kecman played so little, but I honestly think he's at least as good as Madsen. Z is a project, but he shows promise. IMO, until Dallas gets back, those 3 should get "equal carries" in games (sorry... still in football mode). I consider the #2 guy off the bench behind Dallas an open season. Thad gave Madsen the 1st crack and looked like he got outplayed a little by Z... who was the most inconsistent player on the floor.

I must say I LOVE the 4-guard lineup. Turner/Buford/Diebler/Lighty look to be a nightmare for opposing teams to gameplan against early on. When we sub, Hill, Offut, and Simmons have some serious wheels and bring something different to the table. And at any time, we can sub in a 2nd one of our 4 big men to slow things down, help guard a 2nd big man down low, block shots, rebound, and pick-and-pop from long-2's-to-3's (Madsen & Kecman).

With one sub, we can go from a Villinova-esque look to a lineup that looks not unlike Buckeye teams I saw in the late 80's-early 90's... and those were good Buckeye teams. Chris Jent, Mark Baker, Jamaal Brown, Lawrence Funderburke, Jimmy Jackson, Perry Carter, Treg Lee, Jamie Skelton, Jay Burson, Bill Robinson, Tom Brandawie... good shooting, fast, experienced, and physical.

And I must say, the refs in the game needed to lighten up a lot and let them play. It was an EXHIBITION game for crying out loud!!

I guess that's the first time I have ever seen Bill Robinson's name in a sentence associated with the word fast:)

I agree with what you have posted though by rotating guys in and out they will be able to play more aggressive man-to-man defense while they are under court and that means the entire team.

Right now even though I did not see him play, I would pick Z over Madsen just because he is more of a force on the defensive end and when it comes to rebounding. (you can't teach 7' )

Hahaha! Yeah... Robinson and Brandawie are the exceptions there :)

Z and Kecman need reps... Z in particular (I'm not completely sure what to think of him just yet...). We already know what Madsen can do and he's a solid role player, but Z and Kecman should be playing more. Dallas being out/having a limited role early on should help them.
