I wanted to create a new thread so it wouldn't get buried in the Tressel thread, feel free to move it if you don't want it here...

Plan would be to walk from the Lane Rd. Park to Tressels house!

******AT THIS TIME WE ARE CONTACTING THE BAND TO COLLABORATE THIS INTO ONE AMAZING EVENT!********
(please be aware that the date may change, but we are trying to get this done before students leave for the summer)

This park is located between McCoy road and Lane Rd. and would meet at the McCoy Rd. end near the soccer fields. There are also quite a few schools near by for extra parking and Reed Rd. park just around the corner.

Not only would this event be legal, but it can include the people of Columbus, not just University Students. This event really could be amazing if done to show our love and support we have for him.

Many times, Tressel and his team have come before the student section after a game and sang Carmen Ohio as a thank you for support and to share the love of our University. It is now our turn to return the Thank You! (He did start the singing of Carmen Ohio after games!)

This event is something that would actually be done for him by walking to his house and showing our support!

Oh and of course, invite all your OSU friends and anyone who you think would like to come!

When is this happening? I'm not in Columbus, but I might be able to make arrangements for something like this. Or, my brother or sister, who are in Columbus, might want to be there. Regardless, if I can't make in person, I'll be there in spirit. Thank you for everything, Coach Tressel.

With all due respect to you and Jim Tressel, I don't think this is the time for such an event. I sincerely hope TBDBITL does not participate in it.

Someday, hopefully, it will be that time. It is not now.

Band lead the same march to Andy Geiger's house, and I believe it was within a week or two of him leaving.

Somebody did check to see if Tressel would be home, right?

I'll put this mildly: the circumstances of Geiger's departure and the circumstances of Tressel's departure are not at all similar, in my not-so-humble opinion. The number of days between the resignation and the planned celebration are not even remotely the heart of the matter for me. If I have to spell out my issues with this event it is probably best we just agree to disagree here.

I think that if enough people feel that Tressel might be heartened by this little picker-upper, and they still have respect for him in light of all that's come out, then they should do whatever they feel to let the man know he is appreciated.

Outside world might not understand the meaning behind it, but they've never understood us whether we've tried or not.

Just from a sympathetic standpoint, I know this has to be a tough time for Tressel. Seeing any modicum of support in that intimate of a setting, I think, would do wonders for him.

I understand what you're saying, but Jim Tressel is not a victim of circumstance. His situation is one of his own making, and tOSU is likely to suffer for it. I know I'm in the minority in that opinion, but I got used to that a long time ago. So while I'll try to temper my opinions I will not back away from them.

This is not a time to celebrate Jim Tressel's career at Ohio State. It's just not, unfortunately. Maybe someday down the road, but not now. :ohwell:

I completely agree with your first paragraph.

And completely disagree with your second paragraph.

You said it earlier on in the thread, people are going to disagree on this.

In my mind, the country as a whole is going to look back in shame on Tressel's era enough. Am I embarrassed, I certainly fucking am. OSU didn't deserve this, and we as alumni/fans didn't deserve this. Now we have to suffer the consquences of a few people's actions at both the hands of the NCAA but even at the hands of coworkers, family members, the media, etc etc.

But for me, a few instances of terrible and downright conniving decision making doesn't spoil Jimmy's 10 years. I went to OSU during the peak of his tenure (which sadly also turned out to be the peak of the transgressions). Maybe that's why I still will applaud Tressel and will always have a soft spot. He was kind of like the university's coach, not just the players'. Meh, I'm probably just a mushy kind'a'guy :lol:
