Visting Columbus - Suggestions?

Hi folks,

My first time to Columbus will be in a few weeks. I honestly don't know much about the city but I know good sports fans are the best to ask about "where to go and what to do". The only problem with my visit is I'll be dragging along a 3 year old looking. During the daytime, it'll be just me and her (while the wife goes to some Vet Conference thing) - at night, we're likely to go out on the town.

Any suggestions for me & the 3 year old? Is the zoo any good? What about that "Center of Science & Industry?)

...also, what's a good place in the evening for a pair of young 30-somethings to go and grab a bite to eat and a few drinks?

Thanks!

The zoo is great. I would recommend heading there in the morning. Our experience is the animals are more active at that time and the crowds are usually smaller.

ZOO - Great for the kids

COSI - Great for the kids

Night out - Easton Town Center and/or Arena District (Both have nice atmosphere, activities, restaurants, bars, etc.)

Zoo and COSI are definitely the best things for a 3 year old-and you will enjoy them too. There is also a mini-amusement park type place next to the zoo, but it probably isn't open in February/March. If you are an OSU fan, check out the Nicklaus Museum and St. John Arena on campus. Budweiser brewery-good tie, not so much of a kid place...Easton-huge all/entertainment complex on the East Side/Gahanna is also cool, Schmidt's in the German Village is a great restaurant to visit in Columbus-real German food.

Yea thats a water park. Wyandot Lake. Probably not open in FEBRUARY.:wink2:

Budweiser doesn't do tours anymore. Not for about 4-5 years. They expanded their brewery to make a larger output of beer. Which took their tour out. I went on it a couple times with my dad. It was actually quite interesting.

For the Ohio State fan, I have to suggest at least one meal at the Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe on Olentangy River Road.

For the kidling, as mentioned before, the Columbus Zoo is awesome as is COSI. Catching an IMAX matinee isn't a bad idea either.

As for dinner and a few drinks, the Arena District is the way to go. If you're looking to spend some money and get dressed up, The Refectory on Bethel Road is good. As someone else mentioned, Easton Town Center is also a great place to find good food and drink.

Mitchell's Steak House is awesome.

If it were warmer, I'd have some more suggestions for you.

Jwinslow - your picture icon is WAY distracting! Nice!

We'll be in town the first weekend of March - likely that Saturday looking for daytime stuff to do (March 4th?). She's going to a VET conference and I'll be amusing the kiddy(s) for the day...

Anyway, the wife and I are both Michigan State Alumni. I happen to love wandering college campuses and it'll be my first time to the OSU area. Sounds like the Zoo or COSI are both good suggestions for the day (maybe judge it on the weather?) and you guys have given me a good idea for evening dinner... what places would be best for a good "Buckeye" view? Something maybe the campus is well known for? Also, what's a good place to pickup a sweatshirt or hat?
