Verizon & Android news

To clarify, it was in a Verizon Branch and only for the same account, but a great deal for anyone who needs multiple iphone killers

I haven't figured out a way to download attachments sent via msg (mp3s, roms, etc), but a quick google revealed an obvious suggestion: viewing your email through the browser. I could save attachments that way.

Wins, what's your plan look like? I'm ready to ditch my BB and T-Mobile for VZW, and my current usage pattern is roughly 800-1100 daytime minutes per month and around 300 total texts, depending on what chick is bouncing through my life at the moment (the last one was a 20 text/day type -- she had to go). With V2V being free, I probably wouldn't need to go unlimited, since I have a lot of friends already on Verizon. What I don't know much/anything about is data plans, since T-miserable has had the slowest 3G rollout in history. I'll probably be picking up a tablet in the next six months or so, so I'd like my data plan to be something I can use with that, and I imagine that I'll be a pretty heavy user.

Also, does the HTC have wifi?

Central might be a better person to asksince he was looking into an individual plan.

i believe i pay about 120 per month which includes the following

60 for 700 minutes
10 for wife additional line
30 for unlimited data
10 for 500 text messages
5 for wife text plan

However 1 way to save money is to use google voice . calls and text messages are free assuming you have a data plan

i have not yet set up google voice so i am not taking advantage of the savings . when i do i'll save 10 dollars on texting and maybe some on voice

Phew, I'm glad I didn't wait around for this phone (headed to AT&T most likely). I would like a keyboard but not the one found on the droid. Let's see if AT&T messes with this device like the backflip.
Motorola MB810 Passes Wi-Fi Alliance

by Kevin Krause on April 30th, 2010
A new Motorola smartphone, the MB810, just received its certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance for wireless standard 802.11 b/g/n. And with the announcement, speculation has run rampant that this very well could be the Motorola Shadow, a device that made its rounds in the news earlier this year as a proclaimed Droid 2 or even Nexus Two. And speculation as it may be, all signs are pointing to this being the case.

Just a little bit of what you might expect from the Shadow:

  • Android 2.2
  • 4.3-in capacitive touchscreen
  • 8MP camera
  • QWERTY slide-out keyboard
The Shadow will most likely be a GSM device, which makes sense considering Motorola hasn’t had a recent success like the Droid outside of Verizon, and spreading the love around a bit would sure help out in their accounting department. Most reports see this one dropping sometime during Q2 of this year on AT&T, so if this is the case expect to hear a lot more very soon.

My only minor issue thus far:

The way the phone locks. I know you can change the settings around so it locks in 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 min...whatever. 1 minute would be the ideal lock time for me. However, when you change the setting to 1 minute, the screen doesn't go off until that 1 minute is up. I would rather have the screen go black after about 15-30 sec, but then not have the phone lock until the 60 seconds is up.

Basically, I wish the screen could turn off but not necessarily lock.

Teddy was still at 60-70% an hour ago (from post on scout). Mine has not held up quite as well (it was at 40% after about 6 hours of use), but I also browse and use it quite a bit. I plan on buying an extra battery on ebay for $5.

edit: I have to get used to killing apps when I'm not using them. I'll let you know a better test once I stop leaving 5-12 apps open in the background all day

Ya, I downloaded a few apps today and I too made the mistake of leaving them open. That took a big hit on my battery....like it would for any phone.

Are the extended life batteries ALWAYS big and bulky? I don't know if I've ever seen an extended life battery that is the same size as a regular one (yes, i understand why they are bigger). There was a time a few years ago when I was gonna get one for an older phone, but the battery was so big I couldn't bring myself to ordering it.
