Verizon & Android news

MS is adding some funky new phones. I think they're a bit too unique, but here they are:

HTC Contemplates Writing Own Mobile Software (Or Buying It From Palm) - Htc os - Gizmodo

There's been a lot of speculation that HTC would buy Palm (which has a tremendous OS but is going belly up), especially since it would greatly assist them in combating Apple's lawsuits (Apple stole a decent bit from Palm's old PDAs).

Those two could combine to make some tremendous phones, as long as they land on a major network and don't do the stupid t-mobile or sprint only routine. I'd hate to see them go as a verizon/android fan, but more competition is good for the consumer (especially if HTC/Palm actually try to outwork/outcreate the competition instead of resorting to scare tactics and lawsuits.

[UPDATE] HTC Incredible $199.99 at CostCo! [RUMOR] | Android Phone Fans

It's worth noting that Costco doesn't currently sell VZW phones, so it's possible they entered it as a T-Mobile phone until they add that option in the database.
Ours does (Mayfield). We bought an Env3 for my mother-in-law last year when we had her added to our plan. They've done this for the past few years. I'm pretty sure the Avon Lake store does as well. I assumed they all did.

I'll probably upgrade to an Android-basd phone as soon as Words With Friends or a similar Scrabble app is released. I read the Incredible's processor is underclocked to around 800 MHz, but VZW is saying 1 GHz.

It's a snapdragon, so once people get it rooted they'll be able to overclock the thing to about 2.2ghz. The Droid is a 600MHZ processor that Verizon downclocked to 550, we've got it running at 1300.

Specs? Leaked. Carrier? The VZW. Release date? It's the 29th. The only remaining unknown for Verizon's Droid Incredible, a Snapdragon-powered Android 2.1 handset from HTC, was the price, which was today pegged at $200. Oh, and pre-orders start Monday.
Android 2.1 with HTC Sense experience
1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon™ processor for maximum responsiveness
Friend Stream for unified Flickr, Facebook and Twitter updates
"Leap" view for quick access to all seven home screen panels
8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash for crisp, detailed images
Razor-sharp 3.7 inch WVGA (480x800) AMOLED capacitive touch display
Optical joystick for smooth navigation
Dedicated, touch-sensitive Home, Menu, Back and Search keys
Proximity sensor, light sensor and digital compass
Integrated GPS
Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g)
3.5 mm headset jack
NIce, I like having the optical controller when I want to hold it at the base.

I think my 1.5 year holdout on upgrading is finally over, which means the Nexus Two will be announced weeks afterwards :p
