Vegas Ideas/Sportsbook Advice

I recommend hanging out around the bars of Caesars late at night. Mighty interesting ladies out and about then.

Yeah, outside Pure is heaven on the weekend. I think me and my brother just stood out there for a few hours with our jaws on the floor. But our night ended when I had started a fight with my brother. A drunk hottie came up to ask him where she could check into the hotel. He pointed towards the front desk and I just had to hit him cuz all he had to say was "Why pay for a room, I got an extra bed in my room"

My brother... such a dumbass.

Woo-Hoo!

Just found this thread - and man am I happy I did.

I eat, sleep, and breath Vegas. I do everything within my power to go twice a year. Once during the first weekend of March Madness and another time during football season.

I play Craps, Pai Gow, Ultimate Texas hold em' (essentially Hold em' against the dealer) and bet sports games.

Biggest Win: Went on a $900 run around 3:15am at the "New Frontier" playing $10 craps with full odds on the pass line. The table hit 14 numbers in 4 shooters and I hit 6 full odds come bets. I kick myself now because I could have won alot more.
Also hit 6 of 7 sports bets during last years NCAA tourney.

Favorite Hotel: Venetian. I think it's the most spread out, you never feel crowded at a table. Very tall celings so it doesn't get smokey. The sports book is huge and the lighting in the overall Casino is outstanding. It never feels like a dark and dank place - I love it.

Favorite Restaurant: Zeferino's. The best Italian food I've ever had and the most decadent restaurant I've seen in Vegas. Expect to spend $65 a head with no drinks. Service is outstanding.

Favorite Buffet - Spice Market at Planet Hollywood (formerly Aladin)
I've not been to the new hotel - but reports are this is one thing that wasn't changed. It's excellent and very well built. There are very few lines.

Must Do's:
Bird-dog cougars at Trader Vic's. Center Bar's on Casino Floors are the place to spot them - not the clubs as they likely will avoid the younger "competition."

Hit in-n-out burger

Avoid "Club Minxx" We went to this strip club because it's where pac-man jones shot up the joint. We thought this place would be a rip roaring mad house where no rules applied. It was relatively tame and they had the "B-Team" in when we got there. Sucks.

LEARN. TO. PLAY. CRAPS. - it's seriously the most fun game at the casino and few people play it because of the layout and perception that it's complicated. It isn't and it's very social. Better yet - don't learn. That leaves more room for me.

I'll be there over Halloween. Staying at the New Planet Hollywood. Will give a in-depth report upon my return.

I've gone for March Madness the last 6 years and I'm going again in 9 days for some football action. Can't. Friggin. Wait.

My favorite restaurant to hit is Battista's. An old Italian place near Flamingo its walls are covered with photos of the owner with Vegas icons over the decades. The mini booze bottle cases and hanging baskets - the ceiling, the walls, you name it - add to the charm.

They even have an old guy with an accordion wandering around during dinner. He stopped by our table and when I mentioned we were from Ohio he broke into "Buckeye Battle Cry" on his accordion. He got a nice tip for that one.

Battista's Hole in the Wall - Italian Restaurant - Las Vegas - Home

I recommend the lasagna.

They're all good, the bigger and better the casino looks from the outside, the better the book is on the inside.

To expand on Sparky's breakdown, a straight bet is usually -110. Which means you'd bet $11 to win $10, $550 to win $500. Basically when you see -110, or no +/- at all, think about how much you want to bet, and add 10%. This ensures the book a win should you bet both sides, you're still going to lose the "juice". (Remember this)

Here's what a key game will look like on a board:

Ohio State
USC -11

That's what it was in September. 11 is a very common spread, simply because of the scores 14-3, 24-13, 34-23, 35-24, 38-27, and so on. All those numbers are easy to get to with football scoring in mind.

Usually the book won't want to come off a good number like that. If they're seeing a lot of action on one side, instead of moving the number to 10? or 11?, they'll move the point line odds. So it would no longer be 11 to win 10, it would be 12 to win 10 on the side getting all the money, and even money on the other side, so it woudl look like this

Ohio State E
USC -11 -120

Hope that helps.

I'm staying at Flamingo. I was thinking about Caesars but was worried it might be just overloaded and too crazy

Great choice - it's center strip and easy walking distance to the bigger hotels.
Poker room is shit - but they have some low limit tables and it's close to O'Sheas, WHERE YOU CAN GAMBLE ON BEER PONG.

GTF out with gambling on beer pong?

What's the sports book you'd recommend if I'm there first weekend of March Madness.

O'Sheas = great time...I built my bank for the entire night playing $10 craps. Within an hour I was up around $600. The waitresses came around every 5 minutes or so because the table was so hot, I got incredibly plowed, then blew about $200 at Light on more drinks, took a squirt next to Ron Harper, then rolled up on a 2/4 game at Bellagio, got the boot for swearing at the table, went to bed at 9:30 am and didn't wake up til 7 at night...

You can get booted for swearing?

well, I was out of line and wrecked beyond comprehension...they tolerated it for a while but then I was dropping F bombs like it was my job when I was getting beat. Since I was staying at the Bellagio and up like $300, they gave me a free meal at any of the restaurants and told me to take a nap
