vBook: Illinois vs OSU

Tough call. I think OSU would have a better shot with a spread like this on the road because the team can't travel as many backups. At home though, especially with senior day looming next week against NW, the subs will begin taking over midway through the 3rd, allowing the Illinois passing game some garbage scores.

Good call. Tressel will not hammer anyone. Too much class, and you're right, he'll call off the dogs. The only way I see us making +34.5 is if Boeckman keeps handing off to Mo Wells, and he breaks one after another. Then we'll see the senior walk-ons, etc. Good time to rest the starters, heal up some of them with nagging injuries, as Northwestern will NOT be a piece of cake, and then comes......meatchicken.

The offense will be off-tackle right, off-tackle left, dare you to stop it. Maybe Ginn goes for 5 tds on punt returns, as I don't see Illinois doing much more than 3 and out all day long. I'm betting we see the defense second stringers in there by the second quarter.

On the other hand, Illinois has ALWAYS played us tough. They've had more talent, but they always come out strong.

Anyone disagree?:oh: :io:

does anyone actually see Illinois scoring points? I realize the spread is awfully high, but 35 points is not that many given how we have done recently.

I agree we will handily. But at 34.5? Count the times we have scored 35 points this year. Are we capable of winning by 35? Sure. We have the horses. But we all know JT has a personal mercy rule. He won't do that to another Big Ten team. If our second teamers can't help but score, so be it. But I won't ever take a JT team on that high of a spread. Even for vCash.

Illinois (2-6) at Ohio State (6-2) 3:30 pm ET ESPN
Why to watch: It's one of the Big Ten's best teams vs. the Big Ten's bottom feeder with Ohio State looking to blow through this scrimmage before finishing up with Northwestern and Michigan. Illinois hasn't given up showing heart and toughness in last week's loss to Wisconsin, but Ron Zook's club simply isn't any good. Even so, a great performance in Columbus would do wonders for the program as it closes out the season. Zook just wants the team to show more of a sign of life for next year.
Why Illinois might win
: The only chance Illinois has of keeping this close is if Ohio State's offense goes back into a shell. The Buckeyes don't have to do anything crazy to win this game, so this might be the ultimate Tressel-ball game relying on defense and a conservative running game. It would take an all-timer of an Ohio State meltdown for a loss, but if Illinois plays with the intensity shown against the Badgers, this might not be a blowout until after halftime.
Why Ohio State might win: Illinois doesn't have the defense to hold up against Ohio State's running game. Wisconsin didn't run all that well last week, but Brian Calhoun scored five touchdowns and had few problems cranking out big yards when they were absolutely needed. The Illini did absolutely nothing against Penn State's offense, and is sure to have problems with OSU QB Troy Smith's mobility as well as ...
Who to watch: ... Antonio Pittman. Up until last week's game against Minnesota, Pittman had only one touchdown in the first two years of his career despite rushing for over 1,000 yards. He has been a yardage eater all season long with 171 against Iowa, 101 against Michigan State and 133 against Indiana, but last week was his breakout game tearing off 186 yards and two scores showing off speed to go along with his power. He should be able to tear off another 100-yarder this week.
What will happen: If Ohio State tries, it should be able to win in a brutally ugly blowout. Expect the backups to get in the mix in the third quarter.
CFN Prediction: Ohio State 44 ... Illinois 13...
Line: Ohio State -34 | Make your pick and compete against others

Well, I bet against OSU and I lost. More importantly, though, I learned something.

NEVER BET AGAINST OSU!!! I was torn between winning my vbet and OSU taking Ill behind the woodshed.
