Vanderbilt 14, Georgia 24 (final)

Vandy's defense just held Georgia to a three and out. 21-14 and Vandy may surprise some folks here late.

If I counted right, Vandy has held Georgia to about 50 yards total offense on four drives. Georgia scored on its first drive of the third quarter.

Still lots of time, 4th quarter.

Georgia kicked an embarrassing as hell FG in the last 20 seconds. Completely unneccassary, just making it a 10 point game vs. 7 point game for the pollsters....
You don't know if the coach at Vandy might be related to Romeo Crennell or not. R is big on kicking field goals no matter what the score:!

Georgia was up 7 points and kicked an unneccasry field goal to extend there lead to 10. Georgia was using their timeouts and positioning themselves for the points. They could have kneed it 2-3 times and runt he clock out, but pushed for the points.

It was bad....

The coach at Georgia is a fine man:( and has been tutored under some very good coaches, I can't believe that he would want to run up the score:!

If they could have killed the clock by taking knees it was a terrible move. A blocked FG could have allowed Vandy to score a TD and tie the game to set up OT, or go for 2 to try to win in regulation.

Too bad it didn't happen - that would have very sweet for Vandy.

This is a homer response - so if you take it with a grain of salt (or a whole scoop) you won't hurt my feelings.

Earlier in the game, the kicker (Blair Walsh) missed field goals of equal length. We've got to go into Baton Rouge next week. I think Coach Richt just wanted the young man to "end on a positive note." A way of simply telling the young man - "hey you're gonna have crappy afternoons, you're still our guy!"

Get his spirits high. It's likely we'll need his leg in the next two games.

Damn right it's embarraassing.

They forgot to go for the on-sides kick after making the FG.

I guess I can understand that from a confidence prospective, but that wasn't the classy thing to do in that situation.

Normally, you might have a point.

This is the same coach who instigated the field rush after the TD vs. Florida. :wink2:

And he's always bitching about the BCS like he's the only one affected by it.

I see your point as well, but I'm about 99.9% certain he wanted a 2 score lead for the pollsters.

I'm also certain, 95% or more coaches in NCAA football, take the knee and call it a game. Just an unclassy move...

The goal is to win the game, and to get to a National Championship.

When you have four losses, take a knee. If not, it is still their job to stop you from scoring, and your job to get your team as high in the BCS as you can.

If my coach was more concerned about hurt feelings from a beaten opponent than enhancing my teams's chances in the BCS, I'd fire him.

Between UGA and UF there is a long standing agreement to score as many points against each other as possible. To quarter. No moaning about it when we go for half a hundred, just because we can.

Score. Hail Mary bomb. On-sides kick. Recover. Repeat. :banger:
